    Happy Weight

    What do you all think of this?

    Usually all of us have a weight that is pretty easy for us to maintain (assuming you are not severely overweight). Like lets say for example, some girl wants to lose 5 lbs...but it's very difficult for her to get it off, and if she were to lose that or a little more, she would likely lose fertility, feel not-so-good physically, etc.

    So is there a "happy weight", where our body can maintain naturally and function well off of? The kind of weight where, even if you slip up once or twice a week with calories, you will still manage to "magically" maintain throughout the months?

    For example, I've been trying to lose 5 lbs for...well, months. I am not very overweight, I would just like to be leaner, even though I am technically pretty lean for a woman. I'm 5'1", with a good base of muscle, and I weigh 137 lbs. I fluctuate, but I always tend to remain around this weight (never higher) even if I'm not tracking calories. My body is healthy, I'm performing well, etc.

    I'm curious to see other thoughts on this, and whether those "last 5 lbs" are actually necessary, or even healthy for us to lose in the first place.

    It's called homeostasis, and it defaults to leanness if you are getting all the nutrients you need and aren't consuming poisons.

    I know it would default to an inevitable leanness...but what if you are already somewhat lean and want to get leanER?

    That was the thought of my post.

    plus one, give yourself the nutriiton your body needs and leanness is a byproduct

    Thank you for sharing that! I was lifting heavy at the campus gym surrounded by scrawny girl lifting 2 lb weights. In the locker room one actually said "You should really lay off the heavy weights, you're already bulky enough if you know what I mean..." *sob* I felt like I was back in junior high.

    D: Never feel bad for lifting heavy! The nerve of some people, arghle, no words (not gonna lie, I would've punched someone, but I have a temper like whoa)

    I think there is a happy weight that your body can function at, and then there's the "happy" weight you think you'll do better at (but possibly have to fight tooth and nail and be overall miserable to achieve). Far too many people have this ideal number that they think will bring automatic happiness, but often it's unrealistic. I've given up the notion of dropping down to 140 pounds (achieved once upon a time, chronic runner/disordered eating habits); with my current body type and training, there's no way I can get to that weight. However, I can still fit in the majority of the clothes I have from that time and that counts more than what the scale says. So no, don't think the last 5 lbs are necessary.
