Hi Brad. I'm Type 1 and usually have to take 2 units of novorapid for every cup of coffee consumed, with or without cream and stevia.
Any other insulin dependent coffee drinkers here?
I usually skip breakfast and have 2 cups of strong french pressed coffee. I've found that I need about 4 units of humalog to cover this in the morning....less if I were to drink the same amount later in the day (dawn phenomenon?). I've been trying to eat breakfast again in anticipation of spring & morning traing rides so I'll have some fuel. The strange thing I've noticed is that I don't need any additional insulin to cover 2 fried eggs and celery. Anyone else noticed anything similar? I use heavy cream in my coffee as well.
Thanks,
Brad

Type 1 diabetic for 25 years.
Low carb for 7 years, LC Primal for 2.5 of those.
Fruit and starch free.
Total weight loss- 3 stone/42 pounds. Current weight = 121 pounds. Height 5'5
I take Zymessence systemic enzymes.
Just guessing but perhaps the coffee stimulates the liver to release glycogen to help fuel the increased metabolism caused by caffine?
I always assume people know what I am talking about. Big mistake.
Not that I think you should know what I am talking about. Bah! See what I mean haha!
