    Thumbs up an enlightened specialist

    Primal Fuel
My internist preached the low fat, high carb mantra even though he knows I don't listen to him. He knows I lost weight and achieved a healthy BMI by following Atkins, which for me was very primal since I was never able to eat many carbs w/io gaining. So I've been eating fat, protein and veggies as the basis of my diet for nearly 2 years now with occasional dairy, nuts & berries.

Spoke to a specialist today who I see 2x a year. He told me that in their practice they are now recommending a more paleo kind of eating plan to their patients. How I love to hear a doctor talk like this!! Maybe there is hope!

I love my doc. He actually asks my opinion on current events and politics, which I am ALWAYS happy to discuss. I told him all about MDA and he was very receptive. Haven't seen him in a while, but I will be talking to him soon about switching my birth control method. When I see him, I'll ask if he's checked out MDA or any other resources. Here's Hoping!

Love my doc, too, but not sure how she'll receive PB when I see her next month. She's been very supportive of my weight loss by traditional means, and thinks it's funny that I sell chocolate for Dove as a hobby (reformed diabetic & all)

I know I'm her star patient (she's even said I'm her poster child). So if PB helps me reverse my T2 diabetes completely, I think it will speak volumes in the minds of her other clients.

The doc I spoke of also said that he feels the whole area of nutrition will change because of people like us and the ability to share with each other over the internet. It is his opinion that the powers that be will bend to public opinion when we create a large enough group insisting on good info and who are not buying sugar, HFCS, etc.

Just look at the gluten-free market. It's pretty much been exploding, and even General Mills and Betty Crocker are paying attention.

I had a chance to explain the paleo diet to my endocrinologist, when he told me that he had to lower my thyroid medication dosage. Yay! He asked me how it was that I was losing weight, and had never heard of the paleo diet.

We have to be our own advocates and let our doctors know what our individual position is regard diet, etc. Otherwise, we get dumped into the category of "usual business" no blame to the docs; for they are also dealing with people who don't want change, even if, like my doc, they are enlightened about low carb/paleo eating.
