No clue how my interview went yesterday. I've been dealing with a highly stuffed up nose for a bit now...somebody finally mentioned that it might be allergies.

So...it's either from the cornbread we've been eating since it's cheap, or from the storms that are coming through, or both.

Grrrr. No more cornbread for me. Time to eat more roast chicken.

I've been drinking a lot of chicken broth. Seems to be the only way to get warm, for some reason.

Allegra is officially my new friend. I can breathe through my nose now!

Another way to crave bacon? I usually wake up wanting some.

A 3-pound package of bacon ends provided me with 2 8-ounce jars full of bacon grease and hubby with some nibbles. The meatier parts make great bacon bits in scrambled eggs, but not so much pieces of bacon.

Have you ever renderend lard from the skin on a pork picnic ham? It doesn't have the salty, smoky goodness of bacon grease, but it's pretty tasty.

No, most of the ham we get has already been cooked and doesn't have much fat on it.

ahhhh... I use pork picnic to make sausage from, and save the skins.... and render lard from.... the bones get thrown in to the "bone broth" pot....

I've had bad luck with making broth from pork bones, to the point where I will not do it again because it made me want to vomit.
