I might look at PHD stuff again at some point, though I don't think it's the solution to my whacked gut. Right now, I'm having a potato-only lunch and while it's fairly boring, it does seem to help my digestion. I just hope I can get to the point where I can have starches with protein more often (seems to screw me up more often than not right now).

I thought the book was good, but I didn't really find anything all that new (or that I couldn't find on their website or the web). But, it may be at this point I already "drink the Koolaid" and these books are really just subtle variations of the same/similar theme -- eat whole/real foods (and I'm pretty sure I've read just about every one of them at this point). Of course, some of these books "click" with certain people more than others, so if you can find it at the library, I think it's worth a read. They do advocate more starches than others.

Okay, I thought from Judy's comment that it was rice-centric. Fears allayed.

I was very intrigued about what he said about the lights, and having a different set for daytime and evening. That's something I would like to incorporate.

The Diet - Perfect Health Diet | Perfect Health Diet

Here is the link to the diet recs on the site. I love the apple graphic.

*My thought is that the PHD recommends even more starches than I usually eat. This is another tack to try in my search of a binge cure. They are also very clear that if you are craving stuff, you are not getting all of the nutrients you need.

I do realize that a few days ago, I was talking about revisiting keto. I admit I was feeling desperate in the throes of a bad binge cycle.

I've always thought Chris was right....I would say two things, as added commentary, FWIW. One, sometimes what we are cravings is emotional (we need a hug, we need to hit a punching bag, etc.). Two, sometimes what we crave (woo hoo potato chips and candy!) is not what we need (we may need salt, for example, and in our world, that probably translates to chips or something of the like).

I am so sorry for misleading you ladies with the rice word.
I had been so low carb for 1.5 yrs that when I read about rice, it made my heart skip.

Exactly. I don't think my body has ever said, "OMG we are deficient in caramel swirl! Grab the Ben and Jerry's Stat!" Though that is not to say I've never grabbed the Ben and Jerry's when a craving hits. A smarter man would grab a piece of fruit. Sadly I am not always a smart man. <something something Forrest Gump>
somehow I manage to leave my intelligence and decorum at the door wherever I go. I doubt your journal will be an exception to that - not on the rug
