I think originally it was a day to randomly give people secret gifts. I remember as kids being told that you're supposed to place a basket of flowers on a neighbor's stair, ring the bell and hide so they didn't know it was you who gave them the flowers. But this could be wrong.

We used to do a May Pole, but not in years, and no idea why!

Helen, you are brave! This year's Youth Sunday is my son's as he is a graduating senior. I am thinking the dress is my green one, still not in it yet, but it hangs in my closet, waiting and hoping!

My mom used to talk about a May Pole or something to that effect. I remember doing some research on it back in high school and if memory serves me correctly, it was a Russian holiday that became popular here from immigrants who left due to communism.

May Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think it's more of a European tradition. Dancing around the May pole is the only thing that most people know about (or have heard about). It was originally a pagan holiday to celebrate Springtime fertility.

Thanks for that NW. I was going to look that up, but a patient called in. Only call of the day that I've had.

It is a 100 year old tradition at my school used to honor the seniors. Singing, Maypole dancing, a king, queen and their court, a moving up ceremony for the underclassmen, rousing speeches etc.

This year I will miss it because I am acting in the anti DWI skit during the alternate May Day assembly. I am a Mom whose daughter dies in an accident. Nervous.

Good morning!!! Not feeling on top of the world this morning after less than 8 hrs sleep. I should have meditated, like I do every night, but I was engrossed. Lol
I have 10 mins left before I leave for work and I don't think my boiled eggs will be ready in time. One of these eggs is for my daughter but she wanted sultana bran in the meantime. I don't have time to get her anything else. My snack at work will probably have to be almonds. Would it be bad to microwave some bacon quickly?
Sorry I have no idea what you're talking about this days, I'm still back at Halloween 2012. Lol
