In my classes we are only supposed to use English in rare cases. I told the students that they would lose participation points for speaking English in class, but could earn them back by speaking to me in Spanish anywhere except in my classroom or immediate hallway. Yesterday, one of my students came up to me in the grocery store, spoke several Spanish phrases and then said goodbye. I found her with her family in another aisle and complimented her in front of them. She will get her points today.

In other news, I am auditioning for "Lust N' Rust" (The trailer park musical.) tonight. My friend went last night and said that it was very laid back.

How very cute, nice that your students feel comfy enough to do that.

    this audition sounds like fun.

I think she should get even more points for approaching her teacher in a grocery store. Whenever we see a teacher 'out in public' my daughters get VERY embarrassed. They can barely say hello. I think they think teachers belong ONLY in school, and it might be dangerous to acknowledge them as actual people with lives.
