for years our birthday gifts were a weekend away doing something of high interest to the birthday person (visit manatees, go see dolphins, sleep with the sharks, go to a President's house, we had great times!

Chris That is a great idea. I'm so tired of trying to think of something that my boys and husband don't have.

Paula, glad I could help. More details...it was an overnight so it had to be close, the birthday person picked the topic usually and I picked the place and surprised them, no complaining allowed (so if you are not into sharks like your brother, he may not be into dolphins, etc. everyone goes and accommodates the birthday person). In your area of the country you could probably turn it into a day trip since you guys have more birthdays, and are getting ready to do a tighten your belt budget.

Our schedules ended up making it about impossible to continue it, hope to pick it back up though, especially if DS ends up at the same school as DD.

I love the birthday idea. We don't have kids, but it might be cool for us as well.

I don't know how he manages to not stab all the evil doers with a needle at every opportunity... but I'm anti-criminal to the greatest extent. Wanted to be a cop (narcotics cop) but DH said absolutely not if we were to ever get married and have kids... Then I decided nursing after being an EMT for a year... but, I told that story already.

Unfortunately there is a database where he can look up the crimes they committed and he does. He says the toughest, of course, are the child molesters and murderers. He has to treat them all equally and respectfully because those are their rights.
