My menopause was not gradual..I was thrown in it so missed a lot of the stages. Wish I could help.

I have always had emotionality that peaks just before my flow starts...when certain hormones are low. I am just afraid of falling into depression when menopause hits. Not a whole hell of a lot I can do about it though.

Tomi, I hope you experience the upsurge in libido that many women experience when carb levels go up.

    Yay!

I am many years away (hopefully) from menopause, but the chance of mood swings worries me. I have plenty now due to depression and have had them from imbalanced hormones as well. Hopefully I continue to not have any conditions that would prevent me from taking hormones or hormonal supplements as needed. Low progesterone has caused my PMS depression in the past, but I think a drop in estrogen can cause the same.

The whole balance of hormones is an issue. You might talk to your doctor about monitoring those levels.

No point in monitoring for me. I can't take hormones due to clotting issue. Might be good for NW, however.

That would be a wonderful thing - eat yummy carby foods AND have a libido again!

Menopause-- What is that? At 57 I am still perimenopausal.

When those symptoms started I was dealing with a lot--newly diagnosed with thyroid disease, difficult separation from my husband and raising 3 kids virtually alone. My life sucked!

What helped was having a wonderful therapist who helped me understand how and when my, "life sucks", feelings were appropriate or inappropriate and how to cope. I also a wonderful gynecological nurse practitioner who worked with me to help deal with hormonal issues.

Now, 14+ years later, things are better (except those darn periods that wont stop). I moved so I no longer see the therapist or have the NP.

I think making the choice to get/stay healthy helps tremendously. I know my mood is less than stellar when I go off plan and this is especially true during TTOM.
