Got it yesterday, read it all right through. Definitely worth reading. Very impressive summary of why carbs make you gain weight.

Just downloaded the first 50 pages to my Kindle as a free sample to see if it's worth buying since I'm still working my way through Good Calories, Bad Calories. Did you read GCBC before reading this new one?
    Liz.

I read GCBC and am wondering the same thing. If you read one do you read the other?

To quote GC - it's basically GCBC For Dummies. I ordered it because I found GCBC very hard going (not received it yet - we have things called Bank Holidays here in Blighty, so won't get it until Tuesday at the earliest).

Hoping it might help me explain my weird eating habits to me folks - particularly my sister. Then again, maybe it won't...

Hmm, maybe I should give the new book as gifts instead of GCBC.

Maba, I would do - I think your rellies and friends who aren't of a scientific bent, would find it almost impossible to wade through. It's also a smaller tome I believe (if I received GCBC as a gift the sheer size of it would deter me from ever dipping into it! Too daunting a prospect!)

As someone who has read the first and is reading the second:

If the intended reader has a scientific background and is really really skeptical, GCBC is the book. But for most people, "Why We Get Fat" will suffice. I read GCBC, but it was 500 pretty dry pages, compared to the new book, which is really enjoyable, succinct, and I cannot put it down. I would get the new one for my parents or my husband, and they might actually read it instead of bogging down somewhere in the middle.

I just wish it had a different title other than "Why we get fat." All my friends would be offended receiving that book as a gift, just by the title..
    I'm a quitter...but I'm back now.

I agree that the title is a deterrent to giving/loaning it to all but the best of friends.

Also, is the book only about obesity?

That made me laugh, very funny. Haven't thought about this before.
