B: Chicken stock, decaf green tea with kombucha

L: Mini tangerine, small handful hazelnuts, lettuce, sliced turkey (prob not perfectly "clean"), avocado

D: Boiled shrimp, lettuce, with lemon
Another day with low food consumption. Was at a work conference with a catered lunch during the day, had brought some of my own stuff but also extracted the turkey and lettuce from the offerings. Dinner out at a restaurant for a birthday dinner, nice server who helped me determine that the only thing I could eat on the menu was the shrimp. Not bad! Still nursing the ends of my virus, so not terribly hungry. Gonna keep up with my chicken stock, immune boost supplement, tea and rest until it's all gone...

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: Moved more than yesterday, purposely stood at times when I could have sat. NO LHT or sprinting, though.
Sun/Sleep/Play: Sleep 7 hours, no sun except liquid, now lounging with my kiddos.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Yep, used my brain at work, and also in making good, careful poison-avoiding choices about *not* eating the non-approved foods at the catered lunch or restaurant dinner. I am resolute!

Em, the only difference, really, between my Personal Paleo Code protocol and Whole 30 is no chocolate and no kombucha. So, not a big jump. This kind of structure does work for me, no gunpoint required. And I'll eat right up your and Winencandy's cheering from the sidelines!!

Methinks the daily journaling is going to be helpful. I already see I've gotta get on the movement stuff...

Very good avoiding the "poisons" while eating out! That can be tough.

Whole 30 is a good "eye opener" but I did NOT do well with the "all or nothing" concept. The stress over "cheating" was not good for me.
I'm glad it seems to be working for you.

Keeping a Journal does help. Being accountable works and I find it especially helpful to read back and "See" where I need to improve.

B: tea, nothing else. Not very hungry and no time.
L: grilled chicken, bacon, green salad, aioli (emulsified EVOO and garlic). Sparkling water with lime.
    D: nada. Just more tea.
Very low food day. Just not feeling great. Eating enough to keep up my strength. Noted that about 20 mins after I finished lunch I once again experienced the fact that my digestive system is, apparently, very unhappy with raw greens...harrumph! Anyone else have experience with this?

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: Moved a lot, as I ran around all day with my kiddos. No LHT or sprinting.
Sun/Sleep/Play: Slept fine last night, and kind of collapsed into a much-needed nap late in the day. Think my system is still trying to fight off this virus. A little sun, plus the liquid kind. Had fun running after kiddos, but need more structured playtime.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Yep, avoided stuff. Today wasn't a big brain day, which is a-ok by me.

Thanks, W&C! Yeah, eating out is far more challenging than cooking at home, and I've sort of become "that person" who asks a billion questions of the waitstaff (the kind of person I used to shun! Isn't that the way it happens?) But so far, my experiences have been highly positive. Of course, I live in a foodie paradise where lots of folks have various kinds of food preferences, so that helps. Journaling (and knowing I'm going to do it) has already made me much more aware.

Today was Day #11 of my virus, and I'm ready for it to be gone.

    B: Tea
L: Green salad with spinach, carrots, red onion, avocado, hazelnuts, broccoli, pea pods
D: Cod, rainbow chard, carrots, bacon

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: Made a point to take the stairs, no LHT or sprinting.
Sun/Sleep/Play: Slept well last night and had another mid-day nap. Briefly out in the sun, but worked today so no play.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Yes, yes and yes.

Going to sleep now, big day tomorrow at work and I *really* want to kick this virus! Have a bit of a headache

    CHECK THIS OUT!!

My awesome local grocery store, New Seasons Market, is hosting a "Present-Day Paleo Store Tour" this month!

    Here's the description:
Discover the nutritional benefits of eating the old-fashioned way. This modern version of an ancestral diet has successfully addressed many health conditions, including heart disease, obesity and diabetes. In addition to balancing blood sugar, shifting food choices toward unrefined options boosts energy, improves mental clarity and helps to reduce inflammation. Learn how including foods such as meat and butter from pasture-raised animals is healthier for you—and better for the animals too.

How cool is that!? I love living in Portland, and I love New Seasons!

Unfortunately, I can't make either of the two dates they've set for January, but I hope they'll have some more upcoming (and if not, I'll request it). I also think I know what paleo items are available and where they're located in the store, but I'd love to be surprised!

Heck of a busy day today.
B: tea, vit D3, immune boost supplement
    L: cod, kale, carrots, tea
D: chicken breast, green salad with lettuce, spinach, red onion, avocado, zucchini, broccoli, carrots, EVOO, balsamic

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: Not much. I moved around in my day, but still feeling crappy so didn't push it.
Sun/Sleep/Play: Slept about 7 hours, woke up early before the alarm clock (likely in anticipation of my busy day). No sun, no play.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Yes x3.

The whole week is pretty full and without much downtime, and I'm *still* virus-y, so...Nighty night!

B: tea, vit D, immune boost supplement
L: chicken in broth, garnet yam, sliced cukes, blueberries
D: ground beef (with a little beef liver) & cabbage, seasoned with fish sauce and cracked black peppercorns, mini satsuma orange
Hmm. In my ongoing quest to get move beyond muscle meats, I "graduated" to beef liver. Apparently I am going to have to read more about working with this stuff. It was completely tough, very different from the chicken livers, and when I pulverized it with the immersion blender in order to mix it into the ground beef, it clogged the blender! I managed to get some into the dinner, but fed the rest to the dogs. Will read up and try again. Any tips welcome! (And, I may give in and try dried organ capsules...)

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: I'm leading a training this whole week. Today I stood for most of the day, with a little walking around. It's progress! No LHT or sprinting.
Sun/Sleep/Play: Sleep fine (8 hours, woke refreshed), no sun, no play.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Yeppers.

At work today, various goodies were passed around, and although one staff person commented on my "willpower" to resist, what I noticed is that I was not even tempted. I'm well fed, and that makes a difference. And surely another piece is that I have made a psychological commitment to this WOE/WOL, and it's very firm.

Oh, Happy Day! Oh, Happy, Day! Oh, Happy Day!

Yes, folks, that's right, it is once again Wednesday Weekly Weigh-in! And today, I am at 201.9!! That's 2.5 lbs down since last week, and steady movement towards the 100s - and eventually my goal!!

Looooong day today, as this whole week will be.

B: tea, vit D, immune boost
L: ground beef (with a little liver) & cabbage
D: pork chops, bacon (because you just can't have just one pig!), and broccoli
Of note: I am supposed to be eating breakfast. Essentially I'm not terribly hungry in the mornings as a rule, and so I IF'd with some success last year using essentially this pattern above. But, Whole 30 says to eat 3 meals (and 2 snacks, but I'm not snacking!), and Leptin Reset says to have a BAB. OTOH, the GAPS protocol says that the body is detoxing from 4am-10am, so that's why you're not so hungry in the mornings, typically, and you shouldn't overeat then. I wish there were more expert consensus on the breakfast deal. In any event, I'm noticing I haven't had any this week, really, and want to change that up. It's for sure harder since I'm not having eggs (yet).

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: Trained, stood as much as possible, no LHT or sprinting
Sun/Sleep/Play: Woke at 2:00am, couldn't sleep till 5:00am. Unusual. Had decent energy through the day, but will be glad for sleep tonight. No sun, no play.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Oh, yes. Lots of brain usage and bad stuff avoidance.

This morning's sunrise was breathtaking, pinks and oranges that lingered a long time, against which the Doug firs and cedars were silhouetted in black, the sunset no less awe-inspiring, deep blues fading to buttercream with a whisper of pink in the valleys. Life is magnificent!

(and yes, both sunrise and sunset occurred after I left and before I returned to my house.)

The only "tip" I have for you is to not give your dogs TOO much liver at once, it may result in "cannon butt"
Liver's GREAT for them, just not too much at a time...

I think that you have to listen to your body. Don't force yourself to eat if you are not hungry. And don't "starve" yourself because you "have to" IF until a certain hour. Most days I don't eat until noonish, but occasionally I'm "starving" in the morning, so then I'll eat something.

    B: Tea
L: Tuna mashed in avocado, with turmeric, cukes, and blueberries
    D: Coconut flakes, carrot, blueberries
Had a fancy work dinner tonight. There was not one item I could eat. Salad with vegetable oil-based dressing, rice pilaf, tortellini with a cream-based sauce, asparagus with cheese, chicken with a creamy sauce. Oh well. By the time I got home I was hungry but too tired to cook. So just munched on a few things I could find.

Move A Lot, Slowly/Lift Heavy Things/Sprint: Not much.
Sun/Sleep/Play: Sleep fine, no sun or play.
Use Your Brain/Avoid Poisons & Trauma & Stupid Mistakes: Yes.

Today was the first day that people were asking me about what I am eating these days, but from a positive viewpoint, more like "how could I do that"? Several commented that they had noticed the changes. Felt stoked about that.

Gotta sleep - two more long, hard work days ahead. Luckily, Sunday should afford me some down time.
