Stocking Stuffers page

I know Mark mentioned a few gifts in today's blog post, but does anyone have any other ideas for stocking stuffer type gifts? (i.e., affordable, yet highly desirable and useful)

First couple categories to come to mind are (fittingly, seeing as how they're from the post):

-- cookbooks
-- other kitchen supplies (besides a knife and fermentation vessel)
-- snack foods (besides the Tanka bars)
-- herb supplies (think dried thyme, etc.)
-- clothing (Injinji socks for VFF)
-- other books in general

I'm intrigued by the snack food aspect. I mean, of course there are options for dark chocolate and jerky, dried fruits, etc., but anything else?

Instead of a knife go for a meat cleaver. Very handy if you are going to buy cheap slabs of meat.

Fishing gear.

Sharpening stone for keeping your kitchen knives sharp and effective.

Camping gear.

i think just about anything for pantry could be great. high quality olive oil or coconut oil. heck, our fermented CLO costs $84 per bottle, which would be an *awesome* gift to get in an on-going way.

For those interested in 'going native':
--books on foraging, tracking, trapping, hunting, animal behavior
--topographic maps of favorite forage and hunting regions
--Swiss Army knife

For those interested in cooking 'the old way':
--guide to building alternative cooking devices, such as solar ovens, hot boxes, and mud ovens
--instructions in using the aforementioned cooking devices

For the athletes:
--lifting gloves
--fitness clothing---tee shirts, socks, ace bandage or 'stretchy' braces
--water containers for the trail or running path

For me:
--a kindle pre-loaded with Taubs, Wolf, Mark's books, etc,

Uh, how big of a stocking do you greedy people hang up? Unless it's a small mass-market paperback, I don't see how you can fit a cook-book in a stocking. Or a kindle.

I just got my last deer back from the guy who does my processing ( until I can start doing it myself) I had a bunch done as jerky and he vaccum seals the packs for me . several on my list are getting deer jerky for Christmas . provided I dont eat it first

Elwyne: The kindle wasn't a joke. I gave up hoping for a pony a long time ago. Its the well loaded kindle that I want now. If need be I will hang a super large industrial size panty hose--both legs--to get one.
