    Not Losing Weight on Primal

    Shop Now
    Hello everyone,

My husband and I have been on the Primal lifestyle since April 2010. We do look and feel much better. My husband's triglycerides have gone down tremendously, but we're not losing significant weight. We've probably lost about 3-5 lbs each since this April. In April, we were 140 (now 137lbs at 5'3") and 170 (now 165 at 5'11").

Here is what our regular day looks like:
breakfast -- 2 eggs + 1 banana or apple or mixed veggies with hummus
    snack -- almonds
lunch -- large salad with a variety of veggies and chicken or fish
dinner -- either nothing or a lean protein with a side of salad
snacks (throughout the day) -- 1-2 tangerines or 1 orange or 1 apple or handful of nuts or sunflower seeds, dried fruit

Occasionally (once a week) we do cheat and eat ice cream or some chocolate.

We are moderate exercisers (3-5 times a week). My husband runs 25 miles a week. We both lift weights moderately as well. Our jobs are both sedentary.

After reading numerous posts about people on Primal losing oodles of lbs over short periods of time, we are a bit perplexed about why we haven't been losing more weight/fat (particularly abdominal fat). We have gained some muscle mass. To be honest, we were not overweight to begin with, but with did (and still do) have an excess of abdominal and thigh fat that we cannot get rid of. Any ideas? Thanks!

    Let's see.

Bananas and apples at breakfast. Hummus (made of legumes - forbidden on the PB) at breakfast. No fat at lunch (and not much at breakfast, either). Minimal fat elsewhere. Fruit and nuts for snacks.

You are having more insulin-spiking foods (fruit, fruit, and more fruit - and nuts) than I can shake a stick at, not nearly enough fat (lean protein? Seriously?), and to top it off, you're probably not eating enough calories period. Also, many of the people loosing "oodles of fat over short periods of time" were morbidly obese - me included. The slimmer you are to start with, the longer it takes to come off, regardless of your dietary plan. You are slim by comparison to most people here. You will take longer to lose weight than we will, because we simply have more to lose.
Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

You look to be at great weights as it is for your height... I can't see why you would want to lose more. So long as you feel great and have plenty of energy!

Thanks for your replies guys. We're not looking to lose a ton, just the belly fat that still lingers for that flat belly look

    CLA 6000 mg a day.
I didn't want to say anything here until I tried it for myself.
    It works.
    My God, it actually works.
Takes 2-4 weeks to kick in.

Dang...I thought I ate a lot of fruit and nuts! I think it would be challenging to lose weight with that diet. Perhaps you could count carbs just for a few days to see where you are? I would guess you are not in the weight loss "sweet spot".

edit: But, yeah, I agree with Griff, others re: all the fruit and nuts. Insulin response = belly fat.

    a few things:

    hows the sleep and stress?

I'd cut back on the fruit/nuts and your diet looks a little lean in the fat department, but maybe you aren't reporting that part.

how much "move slowly" do you do? Mark recommends 5-7 hours/week.

Have you tracked your total calories/macronutrients?
