Classic, thanks for the welcome! That's an interesting reaction to coffee. In the evening I do feel sleepy after coffee, but attributed it to the late hour. I'll have to pay closer attention to my reactions. My decaf espresso is laden with heavy cream and honey, but today starts a month of going honey-free. When I felt a little anxious at the thought of doing this I knew it was an issue that it would be wise to address. Baby steps.

Yeah, I get sleepy during the day but if I drink it after 4PM I cannot sleep at night. Isn't that weird? That really puzzles me. I have always had opposite responses to medications that are known to stimulate or make one sleepy. When I was a kid I used to take speed to help me focus and concentrate (calm me down) but that was before all the treatments for ADD came out. I guess I was an undiagnosed ADD person.

Good luck with the getting off the honey in the coffee thing. I sometimes take a teaspoon of honey at night if I am having a hard time getting to sleep. It works most of the time and I am snoozing away in no time. I read about that some place. I think it was in a paleo site.

Wow, I hadn't been here for a while, and find LOTS of new members and posts! HI, all! I've just started a "Primal/Paleo on Facebook" group and was recommending our little back here. We may get MORE new members.

Thanks, Classic, we have a nice little group already, some old hands and some just interested. I started it last week and we have 63 members! I hope some find their way here, lots of good information.

Hi all! I'm 58, definitely post menopausal. Started easing into PB last year, August, 2012, when I decided to start WW but wanted to do it with whole natural foods, grainfree and (nearly) dairy-free. At 5'7" and 189 Lbs I really wanted to get healthy, rid myself of some aches and pains and IBS issues. I had been eating low carb for years, but weight didn't budge; hence the decision to start WW (online, since the meetings pushed too much processed food and "free" fruit). I had also been to a natural physician to balance my hormones for about two years and was on bio-identical progesterone, estriol, and very recently, testosterone. I started WW, eating protein, lots of veggies, and using the rest of my points for fat - coconut oil, butter, MCT oil, or olive oil. I kept my protein portions relatively small, but got in my 90-100 grams a day. No cheating on weekends, no alcohol, no cravings. Well, I have trimmed to 142 - almost at my 139 goal. I think the key was getting my hormones balanced - I can't recommend it enough! I finally have the energy and drive to do some weight training which is slowly getting me more toned. Sorry so long - wanted to get my experience in there!

Welcome MarieD! Lot's of us here are dealing with similar issues. It's a great thread for discussing issues that are particular to our
    time in life.

Would like to hear about the hormone balancing...how did you discover they were out of whack, how do they know what and how much you need to take, and is there some point at which you quit taking them?

Your weight loss is very heartening! Did you exercise much?

I eat pretty decently--good foods, almost nothing processed, and pretty low carb. I'm not losing weight though, so I think I have to become more strict about what I eat, and maybe measure for a while.

What else have you gals done that's made a good difference in getting excess weight off?

Secret agent girl, before you start changing your diet you may want to look into your hormones and test your thyroid.
