    "Oh, no one's getting rickets, so everything's really fine."
    Except that they are, and it's really not:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/he...g-rickets.html
    Oh yes, except for that. OK, rephrase the summary - 'if they need supplements, we'll be able to tell because they get rickets, which can mostly be treated, so everything's really fine.'

    I wonder if this is another 'This is what we've always said, so we must always say it' case. They've always said you can get all the nutrients you need from a 'balanced diet', so they have to wheel out some people to say it again, to save face. It's a politician thing, isn't it?

    Yeah, I reckon. Although they've got so much backing down to do, they'd best figure out a way to start doing it soon, or they're going to have to back down all over the place all at once when the evidence becomes overwhelming. Or it appears on wikileaks.

    I suspect that all of these people saying supplements aren't necessary are all supplementing themselves anyway.

    ugh. i upped my d to 8000 a day, & i've never felt better. my SAD has yet to show its ugly face this year, & for that i'm grateful.
    I also am curious. I live in northern Canada, and we get very little sunlight all winter...

    My family practitioner and also a close friend of mine who is a surgeon both tell me that the medical community is very excited about the heretofore unrecognized benefits of taking vitamin D. Both good doctors in my view, and both mainstream in their approaches.

    Oh I can't wait until they do big Pharma. I wonder what the internal memos on anti-depressants say. "Yeah, we know they don't work better than placebos, but we can't sell placebos, so shut up"

    Healthy people don't make any money for the drug companies, doctors & hospitals.

    Need I say any more?

    They would make vitamins & supplements illegal if they could.

    Just look at all the diseases that will lose market share if people started taking Vitamin D:
    D Council: What diseases are associated with vitamin D deficiency?
    ============================================
    * Osteoporosis * heart disease,
    * hypertension, * autoimmune diseases,
    * certain cancers, * depression,
    * chronic fatigue, * chronic pain comprises
    http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/vdds.shtml
    Additional Diseases/conditions associated with vitamin D Deficiency
    * malformed, brittle bones, bone fractures and osteoporosis, stooped posture
    * Rickets, Multiple Sclerosis, Type 2 diabetes, Arthritus
    * Increased risk of cancers
    * bone pain, muscle cramps, tingling, weakness, loss of height.
    * Cardiovascular Disease
    * high blood pressure (hypertension)

    ITS ALL ABOUT MONEY.

    Here is Dr Davis on 'What the Institute of Medicine should have said':
    http://heartscanblog.blogspot.com/20...ould-have.html

    Broadly speaking he has changed it from 'We don't know, so everything's really fine, and don't do anything until we tell you to' to 'We don't know, but there is obviously something of importance to be known, so we should make it a priority to find out.'
