hopefully i'm misunderstanding something. he seems willing to hear me out, so i think we can work through this. i honestly don't know what's the social norm here, and if i'm being unreasonable.

Smiling, joking, and easygoing behavior is called being social or not being a douche. Does he expect you to be unfriendly, anti-social, and basically not personable at all? BTW being friendly and easy going is generally the social norm.

in other news, it was really really stupid of me to buy ice cream thinking "i'll surprise the kids." because then i ate most of it before they got any, and then they found that we had some. they don't yet know that it's almost gone, so i need to run out tomorrow and buy more so i can actually share with them. otherwise, i'm the world's most disappointing mom.

haha. i bought more today and allowed the kids to dish it out for themselves while i was lying down with the toddler. crazy thing is, they both exercised a great deal of restraint wrt their portions even though i was nowhere in sight. i was shocked.

does your husband get mad about flirting? does he know? i don't intentionally flirt with other people in front of him; i could see how that would be hurtful (though apparently i've done that too, so i apologized).

yeah naiad, i'd have to form a line too. though really, i don't flirt that often IRL; i've probably had fewer flirting partners than most people have had sexual partners. today's waiter looked a bit like justin bieber. needless to say, i did not flirt with him.

We both do. We use it to our advantage. Male server, sales rep, etc, I talk and I flirt. Female server, sales rep, etc, he talks and he flirts. It's gotten us discounts occasionally. I flirt with my guy friends in front of him, he doesn't really seem to mind. Then again, I think he also realizes that I really can't tell when I cross the line between friendly banter and flirting, and accepts that. If it goes too far, I'll get a nudge and a look, I'll quit, problem solved.

My husband gets a kick out of people flirting with me. I am a very subtle flirt (IRL lol). When we were first dating, He lived in New Haven CT. I would commute up there from Long Island.
There was a particular bartender at Yale who liked me. Bill would say "Go order our drinks, Give the guy a thrill." Now more than 20 years later, he still enjoys showing me off in all my Primal fabulousness.

Rachel, it would be nice if your husband could get to that point. It allows for safe flirting and can make you feel beautiful.
