What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains
I stumbled across this book by Nicholas Carr in a second hand book store and I was wondering if any of you have read it?
I skimmed the book and I think he presents a thesis that our 'tools' shape our way of thinking and the internet, which presents fragmented, and often skimmed information, is shaping our brains into fragmented and shallow thinking.
I think it may follow in the vein of 'Amusing Ourselves to Death' by Neil Postman, but with more up to date technology.
BTW, I'm aware of the irony of skimming a book warning about the dangers of skimming information.
Speaking as someone who spends far too much time online, it's bad for you kids... don't need any book to tell me that.
it's making me a more compassionate human being.
go home now, and kill your children goodnight.
