Are there any substances present in a Vicks inhaler that it would be possible to get addicted to?

StoneAge: I have not heard of any clinical issues with VIcks, BUT I do know that my grandfather had addictive behaviors and he would have a panic attack if he did not have 3-4 Vicks around him at all times, dont know if that was a true ingredient addiction or a behavioral addiction though

I'm embarrassed admitting this, but I've started to use the Vicks Inhaler all the time, and I crave it if I don't have it. I'm not really sure what it is i enjoy so much about using it, except I really like the smell. I also enjoy rubbing the Vaporub on at night too.

well, for me anyway, it is a very energizing, refreshing feeling to inhale that. I wonder if overuse could damage the nasal passages.

Too much rubs that contain methyl salicylate can cause kidney and lung damage though, I do know that.

No need to be embarrassed, I beleive we all have our vices! Maybe get a menthal scented candle?

I don't know why, but every time I see the word fage I think of Vag, so your comment made me giggle.

Eeeek I've already battled kidney damage from Diabetes, so maybe it's time to break my addiction. i like a very strong smell, so I might buy some eucalyptus oil and try that.

    Thanks for your help!

Never trust Wikipedia! ...but I'm pretty lazy. I couldn't find the inhaler specifically, but most Vicks products contain camphor:

In larger quantities, it is poisonous when ingested and can cause seizures, confusion, irritability, and neuromuscular hyperactivity. In extreme cases, even topical application of camphor may lead to hepatotoxicity.[14] [15] Lethal doses in adults are in the range 50500 mg/kg (orally). Generally, 2 g causes serious toxicity and 4 g is potentially lethal.
I myself love Tiger Balm! But it's got camphor too, and I don't use it very often. Anyway, just FYI.
