Probably, but I guess the only way to tell for sure is to repeat the experiment...go another 10 weeks grainless, and then eat another bagel.
Do you think it's possible, after being about 80/20 primal for 10 weeks or so, to get intense gut pain after eating just a large bagel?
I've definitely exercised the 80/20 rule but mostly as it applies to sugar, and I've had a bite or two of pasta in that time. But this is probably the single largest grain item I've had in one go in the last 10 weeks. On Saturday, I ate this bagel, and about an hour later, experienced pain that lasted all day. To add insult to injury, I then ate a couple of slices of pizza (the second largest grain item in 10 weeks). The pain has lasted until this morning, where I'm not completely free of it, but it is much improved over yesterday.
What do you guys think?
As I was thinking it was the grains, it's been the best painful example of why I'll never do that again!

Best to you,
Grizz
for sure. A whole bagel would destroy me for atleast a day
I think so. The longer I practice PB; the worse it gets for me if I cheat. I tend to pay for it for a day or so. I think age is a factor in this also.
I'm actually the opposite. The better/more adherent I am to PB, the more I can tolerate dietary indiscretions. Though, maybe because I usually tuck those "bad" foods in with a larger, primal meal. I can't remember the last time I ate a grain product as the focus of a meal.

Grains are no longer an option for me, due to effects much like yours. That's okay, though; I'd much rather have steak.
Those large bagels are ~three bread servings plus the pizza crust equals inflammatory stuff that your insides obviously didn't like. Sorry it was such an unpleasant reminder though.
I ate a couple slices of pizza the other day, after being primal for a couple of months. It caused my cheeks to flush, which was a little weird. But I do understand that the body needs time to adjust to any new diet, so I'm not sure that symptoms we may experience eating something we've stayed away from for a while mean any more than that. Although they may, considering that wheat products are possibly inflammatory.
I've been caught out a couple of times in the past with wheat lurking in some (well meaning relatives) home made fare. I'd read somewhere that glucosamine binds wheat lectin and its well documented anecdotal relief of arthritis might be simply be due to the glucosamine binding and disposing of lectin in the gut rather that any direct effect on inflamed joints.
So last time I got an unexpected gut ache from some slightly uncertain food i crunched up and swallowed a couple of glucosamine tablets. Might have been 'placebo effect' but the pain subsided and went in about 20 minutes! Worth a try!
