    Probiotics Help?

    Primal Fuel
I've been seeing a lot of people post about probiotics and to change it up every month or so ...

I'm currently having one with Lactobacillus fermentum -- is this a good quality and should I be changing it up? I'm also having greek yogurt with probiotics as well as cottage cheese with it. Is that enough?

I dont have an educated opinion on this, but I like to keep 2-4 different brands of probiotics on hand and switch up which ones I take each day. This has worked well enough that I no longer take them every day. Also, fermented foods are great, I love kraut, kinchee and yogurt!

As for your question on if it's enough... how is your digestion feeling?

It's been feeling fine the last few days ever since I've cut down on my intake of eggs -- I was eating a whole ton -- like 2-3 a day. I've added a little more fiber in my diet too and my digestion is going pretty well now.

I would guess that the recommendation to change to a different pro-biotic every so often is that most only have a few (1-9), beneficial strains of microbes in them. Most of these 'bugs' don't colonize the gut for very long. Yogurt cultures last for just a few days, as an example.

You might want to check out homebrewed Kefir. The stuff made at home from Kefir grains has somewhere around 50 different strains of microbes, plus enzymes and other goodies. The microbes in Kefir go in, colonize and stay in the gut. You do have to work a bit every day changing out the 'grains', and storing the fresh Kefir, but it's about the best Probiotic around. If you want to learn more, go over to youtube and enter 'Kefir' in the search box. Lots of videos about it available.

Trader Joes, or Whole Foods Market, Smiths/Krogers markets. Trader Joe has their own brand, Smiths/Krogers carries Lifeway which has 10 cultures. That's about the max number of cultures for commercial Kefir.

Now if you want to go the homemade route, go over to kefirstore.com and order the grains there. Or, go here and with a bit of looking you can often get the grains for free!

And if you want to know all the 'ins and outs' of Kifer, check out this site:
