I just looked up Omega 6 and 3 information on foods and it was shocking, in a bad way. I didn't realize so many of the foods I eat are so high in O-6s (beef, poultry, etc., sometimes butter). I'm not sure how I can go about getting my O6 levels lower and my O3 levels higher, short of eating mostly fish. And I'm not really a big fish person.

I don't eat seed oils, etc. Wild game isn't really a big option, and grass fed and finished isn't always, though I definitely eat hormone and antibiotic free foods. Are there any other ideas for naturally (without supplementation) reducing your O6 intake and raising your O3 intake? I am taking O3s as well but it'd be nice to also naturally lower my O-6s through diet. Should I be worried about this?

I wouldn't worry. Keep looking for ways to increase 3s. Look for new ways to cook fish.

    Christina,

If you also choose the leaner cuts of conventional meats, you'll be taking in less fat from them; this is good because you don't have to take so much fish oil to compensate. I think this was one of the things I had been doing wrong, frankly.

When I started using lower-fat beef, and took the skin off my chicken, and kept my fish oil intake the same----suddenly my ratios were a lot better, and I was able to bust my weight plateau

    cool photo kuno1chi!

thanks for the tips on that, so unless you can buy the grassfed or wild fed chicken, take the lean stuff but add in the fish oil omega 3's?

To get the required amount of essential minerals (particularly potassium), you need to eat LOTS of nonstarchy veggies every day. Eating that much low-carb veg won't leave a lot of room to consume a lot of meat... so I personally don't worry about the O6 content of the meat that I do eat. And I do take plenty of fish oil caps.

Not an essential fatty acid. Wikipedia will tell you all about it .
