    Lightbulb UK Meet-up idea - Market Drayton (Shropshire)

    Hello!

    Why let the Yanks have all the fun, hmmm?

    Whilst browsing around looking for grassfed meat, I re-stumbled across a farm not too far from me. What caught my eye was the guided walks around the farm with the tenants (it's a CSA type scheme).

    Extract:
    We offer guided walks by Charlotte Hollins around Fordhall. These generally take about 1.5 hours and provide you with the inspiring behind the scenes story of how this historic farm was saved from development by thousands of people across the world. The walks also covers the unique Foggage farming system, organics, volunteering and more.
    Walks can be offered free of charge, and refreshments can be organised on request for a small charge. This may consist of anything from a cup of tea and cake to a full buffet. Or you may decide to bring your own picnic and make an afternoon of it in the picnic area or the soon to be built tearoom (coming Spring 2011).
    Walks need to be booked for a minimum of 10 people with a maximum of 25. The terrain is variable with moderate hills and there are no styles to climb.


    There's a farm shop onsite and I'm sure they could be persuaded to fill the fridges and freezers!


    So, does anyone fancy a walk, a chat, and some food shopping?
    If people are interested I'm happy to ring and arrange it etc, after deciding on a date!







    Info about Fordhall:
    Tenant farmer, Ben Hollins, runs the working farm at Fordhall. His livestock are 100% free-range and graze species-rich chemical free pastures all year round. Ben does not use routine antibiotics or growth hormones. Neither does he feed additional concentrates through the winter.

    I'd be up for it in theory, but I couldn't afford anywhere to stay (I have rellies in Leeds, but they don't have the space at the moment). Though you don't specifically state Yorkshire, I'm kinda imagining that's where you are...

    I wouldn't mind but would prb want to wait till spring...although seeing all those uber cute lambs in the field, waiting to die might be a bit sad :-(

    Fordhall Farm Hog Roasts
    The hog roast is an impressive sight when cooked, golden brown and covered in crackling, it gives a visual impact along with a delicious feast. We will serve you one of our home reared free-range Gloucester Old Spot pigs, and as Ben tends to the pigs on a daily basis and will probably be serving your hog roast, you couldn't ask for better traceability.

    A whole pig takes approx. 7.5 hours to roast. When the hog is ready to serve one of our team will carve the pig in front of the guests and plate up the buffet fresh. The pork to be served with an accompaniment of apple sauce
