I meant the only sugar in maple syrup is sucrose....which that paper confirms. Obviously there are other chemicals that give syrup its coloring and flavor.
Here are the ingredients for those who are interested...
The waffles were Vans Wheat Free Blueberry and here are the ingredients: BROWN RICE FLOUR, WATER, POTATO STARCH, RICE FLOUR, CANOLA OIL, PINEAPPLE JUICE CONCENTRATE, LEAVENING (BAKING SODA, SODIUM ACID PYROPHOSPHATE, MONOCALCIUM PHOSPHATE), PEACH JUICE CONCENTRATE, BLUEBERRIES, DATES, FRUCTOSE, POWDERED SUGAR (SUGAR, CORNSTARCH), SUGAR, PEAR JUICE CONCENTRATE, SALT, NATURAL FLAVOR, DEFATTED SOY FLOUR, SOY LECITHIN, CARROT FIBER, GUAR GUM, MALIC ACID. CONTAINS SOY.
The "maple syrup" was good old off the shelf Aunt Jemima... Butter Rich. Here are the ingredients for that one: CORN SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, WATER, SALT, CELLULOSE GUM, NATURAL BUTTER FLAVOR WITH OTHER NATURAL FLAVORS, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL MAPLE FLAVOR, SODIUM HEXAMETAPHOSPHATE, SODIUM BENZOATE AND SORBIC ACID (PRESERVATIVES), CARAMEL COLOR
Looking at these two I am going to guess it was more the syrup than the waffles, however there is no way to be sure.
Appreciate all the feedback!
