    Dealing with boredom

    Shop Now
What do y'all do to deal with boredom?

To explain my situation, I'm in Egypt and work 4.5 days a week so I have a long weekend every week. I'm about 1.5 hours outside of Cairo and while I go in there once a week for food, it is not a place where I want to spend the whole weekend. Driving in Cairo is like being a NASCAR driver except with donkey carts, pedestrians and kamikaze drivers all over the place.

Where I live is a nice resort area (I have an apartment) built around a golf course, and I don't like to play golf (tried it, didn't care for it). I do get out and walk and do other exercises but you can only do so much during the day.

About 8 English speaking TV channels, 3 are news channels the other 5 play the same shows and movies over and over and I don't care of TV anyway.

And I know, Egypt, pyramids, old stuff to see but not much fun when you are by yourself (my family is back in the US).

Anybody got any ideas? Might have to break down and buy a Kindle to be able to carry enough books to keep me occupied.

I'd probably read a lot and find a hobby. I can't say I've had an issue with "having too much time on my hands" for many, many years, but Egypt as you've described it doesn't sound like much fun. When I worked graveyard, I went to the gym a lot and read for hours every night. I also played a ton of playstation, but I was also in my 20s.

read a book, learn a musical instrument, learn a new language, etc etc

There is no excuse for boredom in a world full of so many NEW things.

    Yes, get a hobby.

Or try to set a new masturbation record every day. That will keep you occupied too.

I thought masturbation was a hobby? Damn, guess I'm going to have to find something else now. I seem to have some type of language dyslexia and despite the valiant attempts of several of my Egyptian friends, I still know only a handful of words. Same when I worked in Yemen for 2 years, I just can' seem to grasp it.

When I go home this time, I'm going to pickup some hobby materials, maybe get into leather working.

I have always been a lone wolf but this is bloody ridiculous!

I'm on the Red Sea side of Egypt. If you look at a map of Suez, I'm about 30 miles south. Most of the tours are based out of Cairo and Alexandria. There is nothing to see in Suez, everything else is at least 2 hours away or better. Pyramids are about 2 hours but not to sound jaded but saw the pyramids, rode the stupid camel and don't intend to go back unless I'm with family or friends that want to see it.

There is a lot to see and do in Egypt. The history here is amazing but the best stuff involves trips beyond what my 2.5 days off per week allow.

Maybe I need to start building sand castles, got plenty of that around here.
