Jerky Ball Query
I remember reading some months ago an article that featured these dried meat (jerky) balls that were made by northern indigenous folks and could sustain a person for months at a time. Anyone else recall this?
I'm going on a camping trip in a few weeks and would like to try these out for myself. I can't find a single thing on the site relating to them!
Yes, pemmican as #2 says. That also has rendered fat (and sometimes berries, such as saskatoons and chokecherries) in it. Jerked meat on its own lacks the added fat, so can't sustain people for an extended period on its own.

Explorers have also used it. Robert Falcon Scott took pemmican with him to the South Pole for the dogs. However, his was about two-thirds protein and only one-third fat, which is too high in protein, and did the dogs no good.
YES! Thank you, gentlemen.
