Something reminded me of Fridtjof Nansen today. Anyway, I recalled that there is a free audiobook of his account of the dash for the Pole in Farthest North at Librivox.
I suppose Farthest North ought to be on the reading list of every nutritional sceptic for reasons that will become obvious on listening to those who haven't already read it. Vilhjalmur Steffanson commented that if people who thought they understood the science of nutrition had learnt the lesson of this book, Robert Falcon Scott among others would not have had such bad advice when it came to provisioning.
That aside, this is a superb adventure story anyway, and a fitting memorial to a very great man responsible for advances in several fields and who has been described as one of the greatest men of his age.
