    Soylent

    Shop Now
There's a Soylent fad sweeping my office. This stuff is "scientifically" formulated drinkable mush that you can substitute for 100% of your meals if you so desire:

    Soylent - Free Your Body

Mark posted a link to it on the blog a while back without comment. Actually he linked to this guy's experience with home made soylent:

What happened during my 30 days on a liquid superfood

Strange for Mark to link it since the guy was raving about his high energy levels, plus the convenience, and his recipe is decidedly non-primal. The official Soylent nutrition info shows it having tons of carbs, like 300+ in 2000 calories worth.

What do you guys think? I want energy, maybe I should punt on primal and just drink my meals.

I've we've learned anything over the past 100 years, it's that our understanding of what the human body needs, nutrient wise, remains in its infancy. The idea that someone could come up with a formula for a drink that contains 100 percent of what the body needs is silly, bordering on arrogant (on their part). I've had a number of people reach out to me to ask my opinions on Soylent, and I generally tell them it's an experiment. If they'd like to be part of the experiment, they certainly can, but I'll stick with real food, thank you very much.

Food is so much more than fuel. This product makes me sad.

Food is also a hassle. I'd be willing to do something like this twice a day and have a real dinner. I think it's pretty hard to come up with a version that is primal/paleo (or whatever) though, in terms of carb/fat ratio especially. The current formula uses canola oil, has almost no saturated fat and has (I looked this up since the first post) 400g of carbs in 2000 calories.

Yeah but this one actually contains nutrients. Seems legit.
