    Fish oil blood thinning

    Primal Fuel
On several occasions I have tried taking fish oil supplements for omega-3, and every time I end up getting a broken blood vessel in my eye. I look like the devil for about 1-2 weeks. I wasn't sure at first, but the correlation is unmistakable after several instances. I figure it must have to do with the blood thinning properties. I wonder if anyone else has had side effects like this (if not the eye thing, then maybe just general bruising). I don't get to eat fish as much as I should, so supplementation would otherwise make sense.

Fish oil and other polyunsaturated fats inhibit thyroid function and break down into toxins like acrolein.

Personally, I take a less extreme view.

The evidence on fish oil supplementation is not strongly favorable and there have been studies indicating it might be better to avoid it completely.

The issue, if there is one, appears to be that our diets are currently too heavily weighted towards the consumption of omega 6 fats. So the solution isn't to take more omega 3, it's to take in less omega 6.

Personally, I don't worry about the type of fats in whole, organic food one whit. Eat them all.

Generally avoid the processed stuff, including supplements, vitamins, etc. etc. etc.
