    Dart 2 studies

Anyone care to elaborate on the long term studies of Omega 3's?
Not sure how to take the Dart 2 studies, which no one seams to
    talk about.

I quit taking them and I instantly felt better. I was taking 3-4 grams
a day for many years. It finally hit me why my health started to
suffer, and what I found was in those studies. Shocking but it
was exactly what I was experiencing.

I urge you to look at it. Tell me what you think. -keith

We've had big arguments on here about omega-3 fatty acids and the DARTs have been mentioned.

I dislike polyunsaturated fat in general but many here disagree with me.

Hey thanks Elliot. I'll have to do a better search. I just tried a Google search for
this web sight and Dart 2 and nothing appears.

The literature on omega-3 fatty acids is very misleading. JELIS was open-label, which skews the results by failing to control for a placebo effect. Nevertheless, the experimental group had an insignificantly higher total mortality rate than the control group. Yet they experienced a reduction in "cardiovascular events," so the authors concluded that fish oil is cardioprotective. All it did was exchange one cause of death for another. Under that logic, jumping off a cliff is cardioprotective because it prevents future cardiovascular events!

Here's a followup on the Dart2 , that casts a similar light on the conclusions.

Here's the newest (to my knowledge) meta-analysis of omega-3 fatty acids and mortality:
    http://www.biomedcentral.com/content...458-14-204.pdf
Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation does not have an effect on cancer incidence, nonvascular death, or total mortality.
If you exclude DART 2 for poor methods, you need to be fair and exclude other trials for poor methods. For example, GISSI-PREVENZIONE was open-label. JELIS was open-label. DART only lasted 2 years.

We haven't yet done a truly well-conducted placebo-controlled trial of fish oil with sufficient length.

Well, until then, no more fish oil for me. I know for sure that it was harming me.
I'll just eat more real food that has the 03's.
