    Funny story

I went to my friend's house the other day and told her I'd been working out with weights and trying to gain muscle, and that I've gained a few pounds and that I really hope it is muscle and not fat. This is how the convo went:

Me: So I've been gaining weight, I've gained like 5 lbs this week but I've been lifting really heavy weights. I just hope its muscle I'm gaining and not fat. My clothes don't feel any different.

Friend: Have you checked you BMI?

    Me:...... *crickets*........... what?

Friend: I don't know. Isn't that a term about weight loss?

    Me:.... yeah. It is. Anyways...

Friend: ...so stop lifting weights if you don't want to gain weight.

Me: but I want muscle.. (make mental note to not discuss these things with said friend)

Not only am I just going to avoid telling her these things, I didn't feel like explaining BMI to her because she wouldn't care/listen/understand anyways lol she is naturally skinny so has no use for me telling her how to be healthy, I've tried too many times. And then I watch her eat her white pasta, and feed it to her baby.

lol. In a way she's right - stop lifting weights if you don't want to gain weight. However, if you do want to lose fat, gain muscle and fit better into your clothes, then go right ahead and keep lifting. Good for you.

So you're up 5 lbs and want to know if it's muscle or fat. Have you tried comparing your weight to your height? That might help.

Waist measurement is a good indicator of "fat" gain
Eating primal is not a diet, it is a way of life.

I always go up a few lbs. when I lift weights. It's just water
    I'm a 5'-6" tall female.

SW: 212.4 lbs. February 14, 2013 (My second baby was born)
    CW:167 lbs.
    GW: 143 lbs.

    Just keep going.

    New goal:

Get back to 80-90% Primal and back down to my lowest recent weight of 158 lbs. while doing as much moving and strength training as I can get in.

yep, this. You are not going to gain 5 lbs of muscle in a week. Good luck gaining 5 lbs of muscle in a year.
