Egg yolks and how to avoid having to warn all around you not to light a match....

    Primal Fuel
I love, love, love hard boiled eggs. Now that I've been eating primal for close to 2 weeks or so (maybe more paleo for close to a month before that), I have ZERO bowel issues and had some pretty significant IBS before. I even do take in quite a bit of dairy, which doesn't bother me a bit.

BUT(t)..........those egg yolks create havoc within and I feel like I can't eat them anytime during the day if I'm going to be out in public!

Does anyone have any advice on how to minimize this effect? I don't want to go back to just the whites of the hard boiled eggs - what's the fun in that?

    Thanks in advance!

    Try two things:

#1 chew your food until it reaches liquid form.
#2 get hydrated approx 30 minutes before meals.

Chewing your food well is really helpful. The enzymes in your saliva start digesting the food, which gives your stomach less work to do. You will likely digest your food better.

I find that getting hydrated with water 15-30 minutes before meals really helps my "flow"... usually I'm in the bathroom 30 minutes after a meal.

Drinking water (or any beverage) with a meal dilutes your stomach acid. It also gives your mouth the tendency to swallow food before it's been pre-digested by your saliva.

(Obviously you don't need to get hydrated before you eat a salad or piece of fruit)

Edit: By "get hydrated," I mean take 3-4 large sips of water. Not a whole lot.

I would add a couple suggestions: try pastured eggs, and perhaps you're cooking them too long. Overcooked yolks oxidize and become much harder to digest.

Slightly undercook them. Especially if you cook them to the point where the yolks start turning blue or greenish; something happens with the sulfur and it's fart city.

Let me know if anything worked. Egg yolks are a well-known instigator of IBS.

I'd take (and actually do often take) digestive enzymes.

garden of life Ωzyme (ozyme, o-zyme) is my favorite.
