    Carbs

    Primal Fuel
    Hi all,

I'm curious, for those who keep track, how many carbs are you consuming per day? What is your activity level, body composition (if you care to share) and how do you feel when working out?

As for myself, this week I'm experimenting with 200 carbs per day. I'm a 170lb Male and very active. I have a rigorous strength and conditioning program I follow 5 days per week, play sports on top of that, coach, and overall lead an active lifestyle. After being really low carb for a while, 50-100, I noticed I was feeling gassed in workouts and didn't feel I had the energy to preform well.

I know mark recommends 100-150 but I'm running a self experiment with 200 carbs each day this week and seeing how I feel. He does say active people can handle more but just wondering what some others have found.

    Thanks, Jim

I ate 5 bananas today. At once. Carb curve is truly a joke. Last year, I would have argued otherwise. Now, I've seen the results myself.

Primal is alright. I like the whole foods angle. It's just that the low carb part doesn't work for some people... Low energy, insomnia, binging. (What confounds me are the people binging on low carb AND still defending low carb. )

In any case, I am currently on a more high protein PHD (150-160g carbs) set of macros thanks to a competition prep. I just started so I don't know if I will start to feel bad on this low in carbs again. If so, I will be sure to tell coach.

Guessing this is sarcasm, because I never cared in the past either.

I'm an observer, not a participant (caring is participation). Me, I just practice detached bemused observation, and report the observations to the aliens back home.

50 gm some days, 200 gm when reloading glycogen stores after workouts. Probable average around 120 gm/day over a typical week. I only do bulletproof coffee for breakfast, have lunch around noon and I only eat carbs at dinner or right after workouts.

I'm and older dude, 5' 10" and weigh about 190 @ 11-12% BF. I'm pretty active with a standing desk at work, 4 hr/wk of bike commuting, 6-9 hrs weekend cycling and 2 x 1.5 hours lifting.

There's good protein, and bad protein. Good fats, and bad fats. Good carbs and bad carbs.

Really the only requirement you have is to meet a certain level of protein. After that, adjust your fat/carbs to suit.
Disclaimer: I eat 'meat and vegetables' ala Primal, although I don't agree with the carb curve. I like Perfect Health Diet and WAPF Lactofermentation a lot.
