Primal Journal - Peter
The second phase starts now.
I'm a 40 y/o 6'2" guy, started at 236 lbs almost 4 months ago. The first 3 months were a breeze: I lost 30 lbs just lifting weights a couple times a week, walking, playing basketball, skating, enjoying fruit & steak. Not much effort.
But for the last month or so, I've not moved forward. I've gained a bit of strength and cardiovascular fitness, but my weight has stayed at 206 lbs, about 20 % bf. I guess that's fairly typical too: I've reached a plateau and changes have become almost unnoticeable and frustratingly slow. So, the first phase is officially over. I need to do something if I want to get leaner.
This forum has been invaluable source of information for me, and I think I found a potential reason for my plateau: I haven't eaten much carbs for weeks and based on what I've read here, I've come to a conclusion that my leptin levels might be low. So as a first measure, I'm adding a carb refeed to one of my weekly lift days. Just one day a week I'll have some potatoes, rice, extra fruit and berries. Let's see where it takes me.
What's interesting is that when I started the program, I didn't have any specific goals other than enjoying the ride, but now I want to lose those last 10-15 lbs and I want to be under 15% bf.
I'll update this journal until I am where I wanna be. And I hope there are people in similar situation who might benefit reading this some day. Because I think the second phase is far more interesting than the first.
