I was back home in the US from May 11 to the 21 then went to Paris for work front the 27th to the 29th. I stayed really primal in the US but I ate some bread in Paris several times with fois gras. Oh well. There are much worse ways to eat wheat. My weight bumped up a bit back to 203.
I went back to kettlebell class on Friday and today had my second one since returning. It feels good to get back into the swing (pardon the pun).

I weighed in this morning at 198. I'm making slow progress, but at least I'm going in the right direction.
I made a lamb palm nut cream soup over the weekend. It was really tasty.
I searched everywhere for nutritional info on palm nut cream. I wasn't able to find it, but I did finally find some info on palm fruit. My understanding is that palm nut cream is merely concentrated palm fruit. I'm posting here so others might find it and not have such a hard time searching. Remember to adjust the numbers if you have palm nut cream, which will have less water and more of everything else per 100 grams of concentrate.

I'm down to 197 as of yesterday despite the fact that I've been eating more lately. I've been bringing my lunch and sometimes breakfast to work this week, both to save a bit of money and to have more control over what I eat. I had a serious dairy craving the other day and got a small container of bio grass fed milk (one of the nice things of living in Austria is that you can get great milk at any grocery). I also got a slab of goats cheese.
I think I'm eating more because my kettlebell workouts are becoming more intense. I've moved up to the 16 kg kettlebell for everything, including press. And everyone in the class now knows the basic exercises, so we spend our time working out rather than learning how to do something. The other day we had a great 8 minute circuit with: KB walking lunge, KB meet the queen, burpee (without KB), back lunge with passing KB under leg.
Last Thursday, I decided to take an aerobics class taught be an American woman who is a former marine. She is referred to as "boot camp Connie," and for good reason. I had been going for what seemed like ages, and looked around and found a clock, and it was only 15 minutes. I cried a little on the inside knowing I had 45 more to go. I sucked it up and made it through it. But I don't really see the point in this kind of workout. It was medium intensity for an hour with no breaks at all. I wasn't working enough to really tax my breathing. All it did was make me tired and really hungry. And not tired in the same way that a really intense KB class does either. With KB, it is way more intense for shorter periods with plenty of breaks. And while I'm working, my breathing is way more taxed than with the aerobics class. To me, the aerobics can only add to endurance. But I was able to complete the class anyway, so it wouldn't really add to my endurance. About all it will do is burn calories that I'll just put back in afterwards. I don't see the point.

That's great that you're making progress. I started crossfit in January and am finally seeing a bit of progress. I get discouraged sometimes but then I remember that I didn't gain it in a week or even a month so I will lose it as slowly as I gained it.
Your lamb soup looks good. I've never cooked with lamb before, maybe I'll try it.

I've thought about Crossfit, but there's no box near where I live. I'm glad you are seeing some progress. I know it can be discouraging. One thing I've noticed is that even though I haven't lost much weight in the last 6 months, I have continued to drop pant size. So don't pay too much attention to the scale (I know it is hard not to though).

The great thing about lamb, at least lamb from New Zealand, is that it is all grass-fed. It is also very cheap compared to grass-fed beef. For example, I can get a bone-in leg roast for about $4 a pound or boneless for about $5 a pound. So I've been using it more and more, especially in things like spicy stews that mask the "lamby" flavor a bit. I have some defrosting in the fridge right now that I'm going to try smoking in my Cobb cooker this weekend.

I made Western Kentucky style mutton (ok .. It was lamb) barbecue. It was delicious.

My weight has jumped from 197 last week to 205 this morning. Yikes. I've decided to stop drinking red wine or any other alcohol for 30 days to see if that is the problem. I'm embarrassed to say that I started drinking 1 glass per night, which gradually became two, which then became half a bottle a night. And I went to several parties and social engagements over the weekend and had a lot more than that. As of Monday, I haven't had any wine (or other alcohol). I also have had pretty big dairy cravings and have been eating a lot more dairy, including drinking a little milk. I'm going to limit my dairy to having a little aged gouda once in a while. I've been eating more carbs too (wine, milk, dark chocolate, some white potatoes lately, etc.), but I've felt like my kettlebell workouts have been intense enough to justify more carbs, but in thinking about it, those extra carbs have been pretty questionable. I almost forgot: I also bought a big bag of pistachios and devoured them in about 3 days snacking at my desk at work. I also haven't been getting enough sleep. So I suppose there are a lot of reasons why I suddenly gained some weight. I'm sure some of it is water weight too, but not 8 pounds. This is why keeping a journal is good for me because it forces me to think about what I've been doing and how it relates to my goals. Any one or even 2 of these things is probably not such a big deal, but in looking at this list, adding them all together, it makes sense why I've suddenly gained weight.
I suppose I could go all out and do a Whole30. I'm not sure if I can give up my dark chocolate though. That would be tough, but maybe it is what I need to refocus, since I've been slowly getting much more relaxed about what I'm eating, which has not given me the results I'm after.
I'm also going to start IF'ing again. I think that in the past, IF'ing was one of the most important strategies for my fat loss.
I transferred my health club membership to my wife, who suddenly wants to start swimming in the evenings. Now I'm officially without a gym. I really need to get my butt in gear and start working out at home because as great as my KB class is, the focus is definitely more toward strength endurance than building raw strength. I also think that strength training is important for me in losing fat. I do have my sandbags filled, so I just need to start using them.

It will be tough but only for 30 days. What really sucks is that I'm going on a solstice cruise on Saturday where an entire boat full of people will be drinking.

I'm down to 201 now. I hate to say it, but I feel better and have more energy since I cut out wine and chocolate. I don't know which (or if it is a combination of the two) is making me feel more energetic. But it is nice to have some positive reinforcement, which helps in giving them up (temporarily!).
