They did several EKGs and had me hooked up to a heart monitor for 24 hours. Neither showed anything unusual.
Makse sense to me. If I understand you ... the groups they split into are not comparable populations so there's no reason to believe that the different in average outcome was due to the statins...

The article I posted above makes it sound like it helps with young people with strokes of unknown origin but maybe I didn't understand it.
Hi jturk, they are checking for clotting disorders. They took like 12 vials of blood for that purpose. Haven't heard anything yet though.

It was a blood clot, no bleeding. An ultrasound of my heart also revealed that I have a PFO, so that is the primary suspect for how it happened, but the diagnosis was still for a stroke of unknown...
I think his reasoning for putting me on one is that there are studies showing that doing so reduces risk of a 2nd stroke (disconnected from cholesterol levels). E.g.
