Good job, Michael. When's the next competition? Do you do all your bench singles paused?
Deadlift PR's are the best PR's. Nice lifting, Jimmy.
Oh, cool. I'll have to give it some thought. I'm already competing in Brooklyn on April 30. June 5th is only like 5 weeks afterwards. Hmm. Hmmm hmmm hmmm. Hmm. Hm.
(That's the sound of me giving...
Jimmy, what's your clean to front squat ratio?
No, sir. I have the wrong genetics for weightlifting. I am actually trying to fix some form flaws with my power clean, because I coach those and should be better at actually doing them.
Guess I never put my squats in from last night?
405 x 2, 405 x 1, 385 x 2
Cleans (full, real, honest-to-goodness non-power cleans, first time really playing with them):
up to 175 x 1
2/3/16: Bench only day. 235 x 5 x 5, volume day PR. Squats tomorrow.
Michael, you're 69 years old. I would say you're a seasoned veteran human being. A well-ripened member of the human race. And you strength train, and put up some damn impressive numbers...
Are you using hook grip for all the sets, or just when you need to?
Well, I'm not quite gunning for Reding's famous 502 just yet, but 200 isn't far out of my reach. 192.5 went up smooth, I no doubt had 195 in me. Anyway, thanks!
I know, Jimmy. I know.
I almost forgot to remember to mention that a lot of elderly people who "fall and break their hip" actually fall because their hip breaks. Because their bones have become so...
I'd go with the latter. Make the bodyweight work your "accessory" work. I feel like we've had this conversation before.
Balance is dependent on strength. You should be strength training. More strength means the ability to recover from a greater deviation of your center of mass from being over your center of balance....
Squat: 365 x 3 x 3
Press: 192.5 x 1, 175 x 2 x 2
Deadlift: singles up to 505
Press (Olympic style): 192.5 @ 167 lbs bodyweight
I don't see how the back is recruited to any greater degree in a 1RM (or 5RM) pullup than a 1RM (or 5RM) chinup, but to each his own. Of course, there's no reason not to do both....
Squat: 350 x 3 x 5
Press: 157.7 x 5,5,5,3,3,4
BB Rows: 135 x 5, 225 x 4
The only reason pullups have the reputation for being a better back builder than chinups is because they leave out the biceps. So add weight to the chinup if it's not working your back hard enough...
Concur. Also, chin-ups are better because biceps. Who doesn't want biceps?
Yes, they do all kinds of seemingly crazy (to me) stuff over at Westside Barbell, for instance, with some high-level elite lifters and get world class results. I would, however, point out that person...
I'm not arguing about the author's intelligence, just pointing out that what he characterizes as "bodybuilding" isn't what is sometimes portrayed by that term. I'm also cautiously trying to avoid the...
I'm not sure the guy in the article was talking about the same thing I think of when I hear the term "bodybuilding," but the conclusion that getting bigger and stronger is better for the human animal...
Thanks, dude. Hoping to total somewhere within sight of 1250 when I make my 163's debut this Spring. Definitely not world class, but not couch potato class either!
Squat: 330 x 5 x 3
Bench: 252.5 x 3 x 2
Deadlift: 495 x 1, 405 x 7
