Yesterday I finished up all the major stuff in the garden, including thinning out the raspberries. Ouch! My arms were covered with scratches. It was just too nice to wear a l/s shirt, though.

Today looks like it's going to be the last in our streak of super-nice weather. It'll be fun to start the new seeds inside, though.

And I'm still wicked amazed that I'm not sore at all! I love that!

My St. John's Wort plants are coming up nicely. They're wild so I get anxious to see if they'll come up every year. I use them for a lot of my products so no SJW, no stuff, and, hence, no herb business.

TTFN!

Minxaa that's so funny, I call my dogs the same things (I don't have kids yet, so that's not an insult :). Just replace "boobers" with "doobers". Bug(s) and Bubba(s) are what I call them all the time though.

Deb I'm so jealous of your start to gardening already! I haven't had time to work on it during the week, and it's supposed to be rainy yet again this weekend :( WHY!!! It was like this all last year, gorgeous through the week, then rainy all weekend. Maybe we can fit in some gardening time tonight, or at least order our seeds!

Minxxa, one of my kidlets is "bug", too! That is too funny! And, yuppers, everyone here has a goofy-a** nickname, even the animals. One of our cats is kinda mean & his name is Sebastian...which transmogrifies into Seb-bas-tard when he's being a jerk....Oh the joy of nicknames!

Hubs went out to check on the bees this a.m., while it was still to cold for stinger-muscles to work. The ate all the bee candy I gave them yesterday, so he gave them the rest of it. Tomorrow he's putting the big syrup feeder on. Hopefully we'll get some dandelion action soon so the girls'll be happier.

Off to the greehouse today to get seed starting supplies. Then later, compost shifting. Now we'll see how in shape I really am!

you are super brave! I have a fear of bees.. probably because I've never been stung, LOL.

yeah, my pupper saw a cat the other day and you could see she was thinking "food!" She chased the kitty (who was smart enough to run fast and get high), until I caught her. I think the lab in her just wanted a good chase!!

And Deb, you're the only other person I've met that says "kidlet". LOL.. that's what I call my kidlets... along with my wierd-ass nicknames that drive them crazy. My daughter has always been "bug"... and my son is "bubba". the dog is "boober". I have no idea why!!!

Cool on not being sore after gardening. I guess that's the functional strength part, huh? Training to be able to actually DO STUFF without having to rest for days afterward! :-)

Thanks, ladies! Big smile! :)

Hannah your chickens sound so cool! I really wish we could have some. My dogs would want to eat them up. We've already had problems with the one dog when we visit my mom & dad. We took the dogs for a walk & went past the coop & pen, our female husky went nuts at the sight of the chickens. She immediately tried to dig under the pen. No so good. We do have the stinging bees, though! ;)

Today, more yoga workout and tons more gardening. Wasn't sore at all from yesterday - that was an absolute first ever. I'm always sore at the start of gardening season.

Eats
lunch: 2 scrambled eggs, spicy sausage & onions with an avocado's worth of guacamole.
Snack: 3 slices of turkey with some swiss and a small handful of almonds. I'm off the nuts now. I don't know when/how that happened!
Supper: burgers with cheddar and onions again. Hub's at reenactment group drilling like a redcoat.

Told the hubs he gets to feed the bees in the morning after they attacked me this afternoon while trying to give them a sugar patty. Good news is I'm no so sensitive as I was. I got stung but only swelled and itched a little. I did pull out 5 stingers from my pants - good thing they were my super loose-leg pants or I'd have seriously been hurting!

Awesome news on the inches and pounds lost! Success!!! By summer time you'll be firmly in the "normal" weight category and rocking a summer dress for sure :)

I've got 7 chickens running around my backyard eating worms right now, they're pretty hilarious. Not in the garden though, they'll attack my strawberries!

Got outta my funk, so that was good. What wasn't good was three days of torrential rain. But, finally, the sun has returned! And I had a GLORIOUS afternoon in the garden. And I gotta say, holy crap can I work my butt off now! I whipped about half of my garden in to shape just this afternoon. Woohoo! Brought the kitties in some catnip, too. Lotsa stuff is coming up.

Yesterday was monthly weigh-in and body measure, the last time was right before I started Shred. The results: lost another inch off the waist, almost an inch off the thigh and another inch of the bust. And I'm down to 152 - only five more pounds to go before I'm no longer overweight. That's a big WOOHOO!!! I am sooooo buying some kind of super-sexy dress this summer.

Still doing the Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown and still having pretty jello-y arms at the end. That was definitely a good buy!

Eats - still skipping one meal a day on average.
Sunday I made the yummiest egg dish ever. Will have to post tomorrow, after I dig the recipe back out. It's eggs baked in a ham cup with a cress & cream sauce. Completely worth the mess.

So today for eats was eggs scrambled with swiss & ham. We've been having some tea rather than coffee. For supper I'm making a creamed-type spinach and burgers with carmelized onions, bacon & cheddar. Can't wait for that! Yummo! And had some coffee for a "snack".

Off to order herb seeds for this year!

The funk has really been going around lately. :( I'm sorry you caught it too.

It'll be nice to relax and have some "me time" while hubs and the kiddos are away.

I missed the Nanaimo bars. I'll have to check them out, especially if they sound evil. Muahahaha...

Man, am I a grouch today. And I have no energy. Last night was the 2nd or 3rd night this week I couldn't sleep good due to kidlets waking me up and getting into my bed in the middle of the night. And it's crappy and raining outside. UGH!

*Yesterday*
Rest day & I was so tired all day. I think I have a bit of a cold or something plus the no-sleep thing.

Had scrambled eggs w/ avocado for breakfast (plus coffee); some leftover chicken for lunch and then for supper it was coconut meatballs and baked blueberries with whipped cream for dessert.

I hope I get out of this funk soon because it's just blech. >:( The hub's taking the kids to the bee supply so I might squeeze in the yoga workout while they're gone. I'm getting rather tired of my workout audience!

Later I might make those evil-good sounding Nanaimo bars posted earlier in the week. I can give those to the kiddies for a treat and have one with my coffee. Then I need to get to work on some herby homework: The Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism. Woohoo!!

11 March

Did ouchy yoga again today. Man, that is not easy! But then I was lazy all day & worked on a paper for herb school. Hubs was at bee school so no dog walkies after supper. Maybe on tonight if it's not raining.

Had coffee, 5 slices of bacon, 2 scrambled eggs and whole avocado guacamole - meaning I ate the whole thing of guac I made! I was hungry, I guess. Well, it was noon and I ate supper at 6:00 on Weds. That was it until supper at 6:00 or so again & then I had leftover pork cutlet.

Today I'm gonna take it easy - my back/shoulder muscles are a bit sore from that workout. I dunno what I'm going to do tomorrow. Hubs will be home, so I might squeeze the long workout in tomorrow or maybe Sunday morning. Formula-1 racing season's started & that's hubs favorite. The race is in Bahrain this weekend so he'll want to watch qualifying Sat. morning, I'm sure.

No More Trouble Spots is good Deb! That's the next one I got too. The 50 minutes goes by surprisingly fast. It's not broken up exactly the same way, but it is in "circuits" again.

Yoga Meltdown sounds awesome too! I have Denise Austen's Yoga Body Burn, which used to be hard, but after doing Shred it feels SO easy and I haven't done it much. Where did you get that one?

10 March

Did a new workout - Yoga Metldown! I think you need to say that in the same voice as the guy who announces monster truck commercials. ;P Anyway - It was HARD! I'm wicked glad I did Shred first just so I could have the arm strength to do some of the moves. It's all body-weight stuff - going in-and-out of the yoga poses & then holding them where it's really hard. My muscles were shaking on a few of the moves & I'm sore today. It's short ~ 30 minutes.

The other workout I bought is No More Trouble Spots & that sounds like a longer Shred-type workout ~ supposed to be 50 minutes w/ warm-up and cool-downs. May be trying that one Friday.

Eats
Brekkie (at noon): coffee w/ cream; leftover sausage stew w/ 2 eggs poached in it & w/ sprinkling of Parm.

Supper: Pork cutlets Parm-style w/ broccoli.

Snack: 2 T almond butter.

Today is hubs' bee school so maybe I'll skip dinner? Dunno - it'll depend on how lazy I am!

It has been a very fast year. Hard to believe it's mid-March already. Wowza. I hope things slow down as summer comes. I want to put off winter as long as possible.

That's so cool you both ride. Either of you go bareback? We used to rid our pony that way. I've been tempted to give it another go. He'd probably just stand there and look at me, as if to say, "You want me to do what? Walk?"

I took a good spill once when I was first trying to canter! Actually, both of my "first" times ended up with me on the ground...I took lessons at age 12 then again at age 15-18. The first time, the horse stopped right at the fence, and I just kind of slid off. I was riding with a pad only and no stirrups! Second time I was WAY too tense and the horse rolled his back up while trying to canter and off I went. He was freaked out! My fault though :) After that, I got it though and all I wanted to do was canter! It is so much more comfortable than trotting.

Awesome job finishing Shred! I can't believe it's been that long already, this year is flying by way too quickly.

9 March

A good horseback lesson. Horse was good and we spent most of the time trotting so I got a good workout. My #1 daughter fell off her horse! She's in the habit of posting so much that when she tries to canter she wants to post! She'll get it eventually.
Later we went for a walk where #1 rode her bike and #2 ran so I had to walk fast to keep up.

Eats consisted of 2 scrambled eggs w/ sausage, coffee w/ cream fro B'fast; 2 TBS almond butter, 1 oz salami, 1 oz brie for lunch; sausage stew w/ a bit of Parm (fresh Italian sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms & diced tomatoes) for supper.

For Shred I was using different weights depending up the exercise. *** Major warning - I genetically short & muscular. *** For level 1 I think I was mostly using 5# except for the chest flies & those I ended with 8#. I never got past 3# for those damn v-raises but most everything else in level 2 I was up to 5#. In level 3 some of the cardio even includes weights & I kept those at 3#. The two other weighted exercises - one is squats w/ 1-handed deadlift, I did those at 8#; and the plank rows I did with 5#. Like I said, though, I tend to be much more muscular than waify.

Case in point and here I'm gonna sound like an old grandma: years ago the hubs & I used to race bicycles - mountain bikes mostly but also some road races. I had big, muscular legs and a small waist from all that exercise. Buying jeans really sucked - I needed a bigger size for my legs & the waist was huge!

As for growing herbs - which ones do you want to grow? Most culinary ones, thyme, rosemary, sage, basil, like a lot of sun and don't like to be damp. Rosemary is especially easy to overwater. It does like to be misted in the winter, however. Mints are easy to the point of complete disregard. If you're planting outside make sure the soil is nice and warm before you plant. I usually wait here until the very end of May or later to put new herbs in the ground. And stuff like cilantro likes it warm but when it gets hot the darn stuff bolts like mad. That can be okay if you harvest the seed for coriander.

I haven't made goat cheese for a long time. It's good, though. Yum. :)

Today WAS awesome. It's about time the weather turned nice. We could really use a good rain though to was away the winter grime. I can't wait for a good cleansing rain.

Congrats on finishing Shred! I'm looking forward to doing round 2 with heavier weights myself. What size weight are you using, by the way?

That stuffed chicken breast sounds really yummy. Once the goats start milking I want to make a rule for myself of no cheese unless I make it myself. Home-made goat cheese. Yummmm....

Got any tips for growing herbs? I tried it last year and couldn't keep them alive.

8 March

What an awesome day out today - 56 degrees, sunny. The kidlets were outside most of the day. It was way too nice to spend time doing math. I went for a walk while the kids rode their bikes. Chicklet #2 is still using training wheels so I've been helping her along. Then I did the after-winter raking of the back yard. This year - no sore shoulders. Very Cool.

Finished the Shred. WOOHOO!!! Now for a day off with horseback riding tomorrow and then back to it on Weds. No rest for the wicked! :P

Eats
Lunch: eggs scrambled with leftover ham & cheddar; coffee w/ cream; 2 TBS almond butter
Snack: 1 slice cheese & 1 small sausage
Supper: roasted chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese & thyme (fresh, from the herb garden!), kale & mashed cauliflower.

7 March
Did the second to last day of Shred! That actually went by pretty fast. And, even better, visible/tangible improvements. :) Now that makes a gal happy!

Also went on 45-minute hike with the kids. They pretended they were horses and did interval running the whole way. Kids really know how to exercise. We also did a few laps around the neighborhood on our bikes. We have a, uh, "lovely" false-flat to tackle, too & that's always fun. :)

Eats
Breakfast: 2 fried eggs, 5 links of sausage, 1/2 avocado & 1/2 a grapefruit with olive oil; coffee w/ cream.
Lunch: salad with the rest of the avocado & grapefruit & lemon/olive oil dressing
Supper: ham & mashed cauliflower

Ketosticks still say I'm burning fat in the "high" range but I'm not loosing any weight but I'm still shrinking. Because this is really annoying me I may buy a scale that measures body fat. I'd like to see some numbers move at some point in time. I've been at this same general weight range since October. Grrrrr...... Will be stopping by the Target tomorrow.

I know how it is with the parents! My mom does diet part of PB and she's pretty serious about it too, which is good. She's gotten much better control over her blood sugar, enough to get her off her diabetes meds. Her A1-C is normal now. But, she cheats a bit too much, though. I have to keep an eagle eye on her. My dad, however, total lost cause.

Aww, a bummer about the blondies! Just when you think somebody's catching on, BAM-o. My dad does that to me all the time. Just when I think he and my mom are on the right track, I open their fridge and there's a peanut butter pie, or a new package of cookies. Makes you want to scream.

Very cool about the apprenticeship. I hear ya on Fitday and having to be picky. I'd rather just eat and forget about it, but when I do that I fail to lose weight. Would be nice to be at the END of the process instead of still stuck in the middle.

Yay for sunny days! We had another nice one here, though I didn't get to go out in it. :( Maybe through the week. I'm looking forward to a good rainfall though. We need it to wash off all the winter grime.

Supper sounds delish, and 75g carbs isn't horrible. It's still in the "fat loss zone" so I wouldn't worry about it. It's nice to have a little treat once in a while. :)

Well...she's doing the PB but when we went over there she had made blondies for the kids. Because her kid had given up chocolate for Lent! :( I had brought yogurts for everyone. Soooo, that was not so cool. I was hoping for no junk. And I'm totally mean at my house - I don't bake anymore at all!

Anyways, yesterday was nice here, too. 50 and sunny! I cleaned off our mega-messy deck. It had tons of bird seed on it (from birds and kids) as well as bones chewed up by the doggies, leaves, pine needles & pine cones - it was really messy. Was awesome to be outside in the sun. I think today we're going for family hike if the kids don't wear themselves out bike riding first.

Did the Shred in the a.m. yesterday and today - only one more day to go before I've hit the 30. Woohoo! Then I think I'm going to do 3 - 4 days/week alternating different workouts plus hiking & dog walkies/run. I took the dog last night and did run/walkies. It was fun but my butt muscles were sore this morning!

Yesterday I had also been working on an hour-long presentation I have to give this summer for herb apprenticeship. Mine is treating metabolic syndrome & T2 diabetes with natural therapies and herbs. Writing about it made me realize that I'm still have many of the markers of metabolic syndrome & I still have a long way to go before I'm really out of the dangerzone. And even eating all WAPF-y for 10 years, too, I still got sick. It's craptacular. So, I started using FitDay again for tracking stuff. I hate doing nit-picky stuff like that but it'll really be helpful.

Eats for Saturday:
brekkie/lunch: spicy sausage & 2 fried eggs w/ a bit of salsa; leftover bacon & coffee w/ cream
Supper: roast pork loin & bacon kale, a teeny glass of wine and some 60% chocolate - the wine and the chocolate put me up to 75g of carbs for the day! Eek! Well, at least the chocolate was free - I usually don't buy anything under 72%.

Congrats on completing your IF! See, not as hard as you thought it would be. :)

It was BEAUTIFUL outside today. Long walks in the sunshine. Ohh... and hiking. Everybody was out in the sun today. When I drove past the bank it said 48 degrees!!!

That's really cool your friend is working on PB too, even if it's just the food side. It's nice to know you can trust your kids at each other's houses when it comes to what they eat.

5 March

Woohoo! Made it through the IF! I had big pot of herb tea to keep me going. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it might be to cook the kids dinner and not have any. I did Shred in the morning and was really hungry about an hour & a half after that, but then it was time to eat. :) I had a normal-size meal - 1 sauteed spicy sausage, 2 fried eggs w/ salsa, and 2 pieces of bacon while the above cooked. I had a really good workout again, too.

Eats for the rest of the day: some hard sausage and cheese (3 pieces each) for a snack & coffee w/ cream (my evil nemesis). For supper I made baked salmon and had a salad with it. For dessert it was more bacon and 2 TBS almond butter. And did a ketostix - high fat burning. WOOHOO!!!

The kids and I visited a friend & her daughter for a playdate. She's trying to do the food part of the PB so we were comparing notes. :)

Monday will be day 10 at level 3, so I'll have completed the 30 days. This morning I was checking out a workout video I did last year, and, blech, I didn't want to do it again. I really like Jillian's style. I ordered some of the other videos & I think I'll start level 1 over, doing all the hard versions of the exercises and using bigger weight- maybe 3 days a week? And since we're sliding into spring - more outdoor time!!! Hurray! I think I'm going to drag the kids & hubs hiking tomorrow if the ground's not too "greasy".
