Thanks everyone for the replies and ideas.

I make a killer pecan pie every year. My fellow thanksgivians will have it no other way, and I'm certainly not going to force them into my eating philosophy right now.

I am thinking about doing an acorn squash so I can have that instead of mashed potatoes, and I'm thinking of doing a sausage, nut, dried fruit "stuffing" instead of Stove Top. lol. We'll see.

Holidays have a way of bringing out the best and worst in families. I have 4 siblings - the two sisters and I get along great, the 2 brothers have created all sorts of imagined faults and insults over the years and don't communicate with the rest of us. Their loss. Unfortunately both of my parents have passed on. You know the old saying - you can't help the family you are born into. I am old enough now to just accept the fact and move on. Some years I think it would be a relief to be "uninvited." ;) This Thanksgiving will be spent with my husband's family who are quirky to say the least, but still manage to pull it together for holidays. I am definitely the odd woman out though when it comes to the menu. I am hoping there will be at least some unadulterated protein to gnaw on. My mother-in-law loves everything with sweets or grains added. Sigh.

@dragonmama: High Turkey Days are at her house, so she's the only one who has anything to say about it.

The sad part is I wasn't going for the food, but to enjoy the company of my sister and her family. Right now I think she'd interpret that as an insult! But this kerfuffle was all last year, and I can only imagine how she'd react to my current zero carbing. It's not a pretty thought :S

I'm only hoping this wasn't the real reason she's been avoiding me all year, because that screwed up a lot of opportunities for me. I don't expect (or want!) an apology, I just need to feel better before I can deal with her again. Although that will definitely change if she blames me for my mom not showing up this year.

Sorry for all the family drama! Call it a cautionary tale about how some people are just dying to be offended about something...about ANY thing. Still trying to figure out where I'll be spending the holiday, but I'm sure it'll be a good one!

Oh my gosh, how cruel to dis-invite a family member! Life is just to short to be petty, hopefully you have friends or better yet maybe volunteering somewhere will make you feel even better.

As a Canuck that just went though it... I made the choice in advance of no potato or buns and enjoy the bread dressing and dessert. No one noticed and I had no problem living with myself the next day because I did wake up the next morning. My world didn't come to an end.

Just got word it'll be even easier for me now. Apparently I've been disinvited, because my sister has been pissed at me since last Thanksgiving and NEVER BOTHERED TO TELL ME UNTIL NOW.

For the record: I did not insult her food, I enjoyed it, and I said so. But she chose to focus on the negative, and so that's all she saw (and heard).

I LOVE Thanksgiving Day food, and it doesn't worry me at all.

Go ahead and bring your pecan pie, but ALSO bring something primal, like berries and cream or whatever. Eat a tiny piece of the pie, with a full-size portion of your primal dessert.

You could also bring some sort of mashed cauliflower dish to eat with your tons of turkey. Nobody is going to complain about you bringing extra side dishes, right?

No need to insult anybody or make an issue out of it.. Take tiny portions of everything else, shuffle them around your plate with huge quantities of the good stuff, and nobody will notice what the heck you're eating unless you bring attention to yourself.

Here's basically my plan:

- Fight the men for a drumstick. Eat lots and lots of turkey & turkey skin.

- Eat a modest helping of sweet potatoes, minus white goo.

- Load up on anything meat and vegetable so that there's no room on the plate for non-Primal foods.

- I'm making a Primal minced meat pie (for my dad and I, with REAL meat.)

Hopefully my plan will work. :P

Totally don't do it!!!! Become famous for another kind of pie with coconut flour crust (I have a recipe if you'd like!) Or almond flour crust.

Chocolate would be yummy... you could melt dark chocolate with some coconut cream or heavy cream depending if you do dairy. Whipped cream or whipped coconut cream on top. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Or banana cream pie, or pumpkin pie, or apple pie...

OR pecan pie with maple syrup or honey at the very least!

As for the main event, just avoid the stuffing. Eat a ton of turkey and gravy!!! mmmmmmmmmm...

I had a completely carnivore canandian thanksgiving weekend, (I had to go to 3) and really thanked myself for it.

A feast of turkey skin and dark meat, ham, prime rib, a fresh salad with olive oil and vinegar with a cold seltzer water to wash it down. Then heavy cream and berries, a handful of raw assorted nuts, and a French press of decaf. Pretty decadent, satisfying and easily Primal! And a 20 hour fast leading into it all.

Steer clear of the junk! I echo the "don't do it!"

Jamie when it comes to carbs portion size seems to be critical. You might be able to pull off eating only a little of the bad things while feasting on turkey and more primal snacks.

If you've been Primal for a while and decide to binge on the corn syrup pecan pie for example, odds are you'll feel crap for a while after.

I've decided to go with a "screw it" attitude for Thanksgiving dinner. Trying to be primal on that day will be too much of a pain, and I'm always the one with the famous, corn-syrup laden pecan pie.

I'm worried I'll eat that meal and be sick as hell for at least 24 hours following it.
