Well if English is my second language, then German is my third, though it'll be my baby's mother tongue o_O. That part is going to be complicated. My parents got me started on English before I can remember and most of my studies/TV shows/books were in English, so I don't think of it as "second" :)

Anyway, "Turn for Awesome Cheap Junk" LOL funny :)

You might want to look into becoming a lay midwife (if you are serious). I think they learn through apprenticeship with other midwives, and they don't actually get certified - that way the laws don't apply to them the same way, and they can do home births and stuff.
One of my friends had a home birth w/a lay midwife because the certified ones wouldn't attend her since she is very thin and has a spine curvature (which made her not low-risk i guess? but everything went fine and they did have backup plans in case of emergency).

It definitely does help! We always get rid of things before and after we move... somehow though in between we manage to keep buying stuff (says the girl who is going to Macy's today to possibly get a couch and some new pans for our kitchen). *sigh*

Glad you liked the crust - definitely a tasty thing. And the whole milk mozzarella is definitely a YUM factor compared to the "part skim" pre-shredded stuff you get in the bags. SO good, agreed.

Awesome that you started a blog! I'll have to check it out, though I won't promise to read every post - I'm trying to cut down on this computer-time. :( I'm going through some blogs today and unsubscribing from several. Always sad to let go of a good one but what must be done must be done. I don't want to be a computer-mommy. Anyway, links are always welcome - so thank you! I just hate when people re-post my entire recipe (even if they changed a few words or a couple ingredients, it makes my teeth itch).
If you do decide to go with a self-hosted blog anytime soon, check out dreamhost - that's who I use for my web hosting and i LOVE them. Have been with them for years and years, and also turned my dad onto them - and lately he's even been calling me on the phone to gush about their awesome customer service and support. I have their link on my website along with a coupon code so your first year will be super cheap.

Okay it's Sunday morning, and I'm a little sad because it's gray and chilly outside :( I'm debating whether or not I want to go for a run outside or do yoga first...maybe yoga first and run later? At least yoga is inside :) Yesterday hubby went for a 2 mile walk with me around the neighborhood after dinner, and then I did No More Trouble Spots when I got home. Finally a good workout on a weekend again!

We may have found a decent treadmill for $50, so we're just waiting to hear back from the guy selling it on Craigslist. Maybe he'll write back today and I can run on that while it's raining later...

Yesterday, the first day of Spring!!, was absolutely gorgeous! And there were about 1,000 people at Findlay Market because of this...I had to circle the whole thing 3 times to find a parking spot! This is the time of year that I start going at 8am on Saturday to avoid the crowds. A few farmers were back in the outside portion, and the inside was just slammed. I went in a different way thatn usual, and actually found a new store! It's not really new, just new to me :) It was "Saigon Market" and I decided to go inside just to see what they had in there. Turns out, there were all kinds of interesting things! Quail eggs, duck eggs, mud fish, canned EVERYTHING (including bananas...weird?), 100 different kinds of soy sauce (including Thick Soy Sauce, also weird?) and fish sauce and curry paste and a ton of different rice noodles...it was definitely interesting. I didn't buy anything in there, but it's cool that if I need some weird asian spice I can get it close by!

We had green salad with chicken for dinner after I roasted a chicken yesterday, which was delicious for the first day of Spring :) I was going to make beef tongue and oxtails, but I'm glad I saved those for today, since it's supposed to rain and be cooler. I forgot to get red wine, which is why I couldn't make it yesterday, so I'll have to get a bottle today.

Ummmmm, nothing else is very exciting today, just have to finish laundry/make the oxtails/work out....oh and finish reading Gentle Birth Choices. It really is a great book! Highly recommended to all the soon to be mamas :) Everything in the book just resonates with me so much, and makes me wish I wouldn't have to spend another 6 years in school to be a midwife in the US. Here, you have to have a nursing degree first, THEN you can get certification as a midwife. And the rules on where midwives can help you give birth are so strict in some states, like in Ohio you're not even legally allowed to have a midwife help you give birth at home. ????? Anyway, time for breakfast and yoga I think, and then more reading :) Ah lazy Sunday, how I love you!

Yeah, it's still pretty brown here. It's been a busy couple of days and it's not over yet. I'm supposed to be finishing a blog post but I'm gonna wait until after my friend's Ostara celebration, since it's an Ostara blog post.

The short version- I've been eating and drinking way too much. Still Primal, just too much. I can't wait for monday.

Gotta finish laundry and get my butt home so I can get up for church in the morning. I'm getting less and less comfortable there. I don't really fit in. That seems to be the case no matter where I go. Maybe I'm meant to be solitary in my faith. I don't know. Service is ok. It's coffee hour afterwords that's uncomfortable. Maybe I could just go for service and leave immediately. Hmm...

Huzzah for selling things that aren't needed. That definitely helps when you have to move again. I'm getting ready for a move and am going through everything triple time to see if I need it.

I also tried your cauliflower pizza. It's really good, but I didn't put enough cheese in the crust or spread it out evenly enough. So, another trial and error thing, but like I said, really tasty. Especially with whole milk mozz. I've never been a big fan of mozz by itself, but while I was cleaning off the shredder, I tasted it and died and went to heaven. SO good.

Also, I wanted to let you know that I've started my own blog and I will likely be linking to a lot of your recipes, since it's easier for me to follow someone's recipe than making my own. I'm only just learning how to cook. I've already got you on my blogroll. For now it's just a free blog. I figure I can get readership up, and when I have the money for hosting and everything I can get one that will let me have ads and make some money.

Have a great day!

Kay that is cool that your friends are getting more into eating real foods. I hope something sinks in w/this friend but even if not I'm just pleased with myself that I was able to discuss it without ever feeling "stuck" or backed into a corner.

I didn't know that spiel was "to play" in German! I just looked it up and the definition that fits how I tend to use it is "plausible glib talk" hehe. Is English your second language? I never would have guessed...

Slesca, you're so right that it just "works." And that it makes sense. I don't know why but I love reading about the science behind it and WHY it works the way it does... I've always liked science and chemistry/biology is really fun for me, but in an applied situation versus a "reading a textbook" situation... and what is more applied than food and its affect on my very own body?

Had my yard sale this morning and it was awesome! Between the early sales I made on craigslist and today's sale, I took in over $250!!! Definitely successful. We got rid of all our big stuff we wanted to sell, and of the littler stuff we have left, only a bit of it is the "we just wanted to get rid of it" category. Some of it is stuff I guess I'll keep a while longer and see if I use it. Or maybe list it on Craigslist individually w/pictures. Woo hoo.

I hope I don't get tested on my primal knowledge any time soon because I don't think I'd do nearly as well. I've absorbed the concepts, but have not really absorbed the science behind it (i.e., why isn't saturated fat bad? How does sugar make you fat/cause health problems?)I didn't really need to because it just...worked. And it seemed so obvious that butter (ingredients: butter) would have to be better than ICan'tBelieveIt'sNotButterFatFree (ingredients: too numerous to list). I have absorbed a lot of the science behind the primal exercise though, and always feel free to engage in conversation about that.

I wouldn't lose hope for your friend, either. The times that I've changed my mind about things, I've started off vehemently arguing my position and it was only through that process that I discovered holes. (hmmm, vegetarian for 11 years...now patting my belly and thinking about my freezer full of STEAK!)

You never know! People immediately resist ideas that are against what they "know". BUT and I've noticed this a lot, if what you're saying is logical (and this case it is) it sinks in later. A couple of my friends are still into lowering fat, but on the other side, they've also been cutting bread and sweets out. I never said anything directly, I just repeat myself over and over that am trying to cut out refined food and eat real food. Now one of them is coming to me to say that she's proud she did not touch bread in a week. Still buying skim milk though :(

I say keep discussing :) Even if it looks useless at first! I have a feeling your husband will surprise you more in the future. My BF reached the point right now where he asks me to send him articles to send to his co-workers because they keep asking him why he doesn't eat bread or rice with lunch.

I did not know people used the word "spiel" in English! I had to look it up because it's to play in German...

Went to a friend's house for a late St.Pats dinner. Corned beef, cabbage, and roasted potatoes - yum!!!

Guy in my husband's class was arguing with me about food/nutrition while we were there. His mom is into nutrition and taught home ec for something like 35 years. Very CW, very food pyramid.
The guy thinks our country's obesity problem is all because people aren't eating according to the food pyramid, are eating larger portions and more McDonald's, and are lazy non-exercisers.

Basically I gave him my spiel about eating things we evolved to eat, whole foods in their natural forms, that we don't need grains, that the insulin/glucose rollercoaster causes all types of problems... tried not to be too detailed with things until he probed me for details (by arguing w/CW "facts", not by asking).

I felt pretty good because every thing he brought up, I was not surprised by and had facts to back up "my side." Also felt GREAT that my husband who was sitting there joined in a bit... he pointed out to his friend that our brains are made up of mostly fat and that it's necessary for us to eat fat to function... and that when he eats the food I cook he doesn't get hungry between meals but that when he brings sandwiches to lunch, he comes home and searches for a snack immediately...

It was definitely cute/cool to see my husband jump in.
And definitely cool to have the knowledge to back me up.

Still don't think I changed our friend's mind even a little bit... he's very stubborn, as people are when they think they're doing everything by the book... but it was a little bit of fun.

Yard sale in the morning, super early.

In P90X videos, Tony Horton does a similar exercise as warm-up. It's a killer! He just does 20 counts in each direction - clockwise and counter, I can't imagine how the 3-minute drill would feel.

Also - a bit chilly for a bikini (59F) hehe but SOON!
It's 64 right here. supposed to get up to 75. So nice!

Hannah - definitely gross how the big jars have all the hydrogenated oils and junk.

Kay (again hehe) - I do use a DSLR, a canon eos xsi, but my crappier pictures are taken with my iphone (you can usually tell. haha) and the pictures in my last post (including the Alice-y one) were taken with my iphone and edited using an iphone app i just bought - love it!

Been yard foraging here but not much is up yet - only really spicy garlic mustard greens. And they're really hot. The nettles are coming up. Can't wait for those! Yum!

That picture is totally Alice-in-Wonderland-ish!

I used to absolutely love peanut butter and banana on toast, either wheat bread or an english muffin. That was a go-to breakfast or snack :) I used to eat a lot of bananas. And toast. And peanut butter, man we used to buy the 2 pound jars from Kroger, hydrogenated oil and all, and finish them off in less than a month! (didn't know about trans-fats just yet)

Oh Kay, it was about 60 degrees outside yesterday and sunny, and I was definitely REALLY warm out on my walk and run! Today will be 67, I just might break a sweat :)

Yay for skinny compliments :) Makes my day too! I'd love to see your whole tattoo in person, it's so colorful in your pictures! Mine is just a 3x5ish spot on my left lower back/upper hip area, nothing that can't be covered up for the office (financial services + obvious tattoos = no no usually).

I'd definitely save your drippings, I can't ever throw mine away! Even when I have nothing to do with it and 10 jars in the freezer already...every soup or chili or stew you ever make is 1000 times better with a rich broth rather than water though, so I just keep it all! Making a sauce would be a good idea too, I should do that with my next roasted chicken.

And holy cow TGIF is right, I'm having a weird day so far and can't wait for the weekend.

Today is a different sort of day too, we're going bowling from 3-6 instead of working! Love my guys :) It'll be fun, even though I'm not that good at bowling, and they'll be buying crappy bowling alley food/beer.

I don't know what I'll do for food, probably just take lunch and then eat dinner when I get home. I had 2 eggs (1 double yolker :), 4oz pulled pork, 1 tablespoon almond butter, and 1 clementine for breakfast. I have meatloaf to take for lunch, but no more broccoli :( Oh well. I'll eat lunch pretty late I think, like around 2, so I won't be hungry at the bowling alley and can wait until about 7:30 to eat dinner....wow this is super exciting huh?

Okay I have to get ready for work now, I hope I'll be more interesting later...

Ugh weird night last night. I ran 2 miles outside which was awesome, then did about 25 minutes of weights (full body circuit stuff with 12 pound weights/ab stuff/tricep stuff), then went home! Made meatloaf and roasted broccoli (super yum), but I was hungry before it was done. So I had 2 tablespoons almond butter, 1/2 cup frozen berries, and a string cheese (oy! I was fleghmy this morning from that). Even after dinner I had only had about 1,300 calories, and I thought it was fine. But, after about another hour I hoovered in an ounce of pecans and 2 pieces of bacon! So totals were 1,623 calories and 51 carbs.

Other than that, I did two jumping pull ups at home! And I started reading "Gentle Birth Choices" by Barbara Harper. Very interesting/touching information so far. I've become highly interested in all things related to child-birth/pregnancy/baby nutrition...even without being pregnant it is all so fascinating! I've never been a "sciency" person, but reading about everything makes me want to learn the science behind it.

Yeah, especially since this one isn't done and it drives me crazy. I see the imperfections. It's good to know other people find it beautiful even unfinished. :)

We still have frozen ground, so I'm not sure if things are growing yet. I really, really hope so. I had a dream about knotweed last night- lol.

Did Shred. My back muscles are SO SORE. I think I'm gonna try yoga tomorrow. I picked up a dvd at the library. "Shiva Rea" I think it's called. It'll be nice to change it up, plus some possible hiking.

Another dark chocolate cherry shake this morning. I know I should cut the whey and get more "real" food, but these things are just too darn good.

I put some smoked spare-ribs in the crockpot last night for lunch today. I'm taking all 2lbs with me. I doubt I'll eat them all. That's 2lbs with bones, so it's not as much as it seems. The house smells so bacon-y and good.

Any suggestions what to do with the smokey, fatty juices left in the crockpot?

Going to dinner and a movie tonight with Lil Sis and her BF after work. :)

TGIF Baybeeeeee!

Speaking of preparing for childbirth, I've started doing the Perfect Pregnancy Workout (I love it) but what I find great is one exercise she has at the very end called "Keep Up" to train you "mentally" for childbirth.

It's basically holding your arms straight to the side forming a T and point the thumbs upwards (fists closed). Then it's just doing small shoulder circles.

It goes on for 3 minutes and it is painful! The first minute it's ok but then the whole "I can't do this anymore, it's too painful" kicks in and the idea is to relax and focus on the breathing, not on the muscle pain.

At first I was unsure but thought I'd try it and honestly I found it an awesome idea. Really within one minute the mind games start because of the pain and I could feel tension parts of my body that did not need to be tense. As lame as that sounds, relaxing (sort of giving into it and letting go) and deep breaths did make the pain way more bearable.

Just wanted to share :)

JEALOUS of the awesome weather you're having. I was just joking with my colleague that it's bikini weather for us this weekend, 15 °C (~ 59 degrees). It hasn't been this warm for months!

Well by the time I washed the dishes and did my makeup there was no time for my snack. Oh well.

Haven't been that hungry at work. Ate my banana and only like 3 meatballs. None of the cottage cheese or other meatballs or apple. Weird. It's 8:30. Maybe I'll eat more meatballs at home in an hour.

Called the Bradley instructor and I think we are going to start classes next Friday! So glad because I'm starting to want more guidance/knowledge. Another couple will be doing it with us and we will be hosting in our house. That's good because then I will dust more. Hahah.

Today was a pretty good day. :)

Got up and busted it out with Shred. Level 3 is pretty hard but I refuse to let it beat me.

Breakfast- Dark Chocolate Cherry shake. I can't get enough of those.

Lunch- 4 fried eggs.

Dinner- I sorta grazed. Went to the Glass Museum with the girls. Pepperoni, verious cheeses, broccoli, cauliflower, baby carrots. 2 glasses of wine.

Went back to my neice & nephews after the museum. Chatted a while, sampled their home-brewed wines, compared recipes. Sampled dilly beans (dill green beans my nephew made.) Had a fantastic time out with the girls! :D

Got home and munched on a couple sausage patties. Might grab a pickled egg. I really want chocolate.

Dad texted me earlier. "Want eggs?" He's going to get them from the Amish tomorrow instead of next week.

Saturday is St Patty's Day dinner at my parents. I'm going up early so hopefully I can get some foraging in. My nephew let me know where I can also get more Japanese knotweed and other goodies. I really hope the shoots are up this weekend. *fingers crossed* I suspect it's still too early. I gotta scout out the fiddleheads too. Dad said there's no sign of milkweed yet. I can't wait to forage. Ohh... and my nephew knows where to get an abundance of crawdads. Trout season opens soon too. I can get 5 a day and he knows a GREAT spot. :D

Tomorrow is FRIDAY! Thank goodness!

Ohh... haha... I almost forgot to share! While at the museum event I heard a shriek "OMG, is that REAL!?" This woman comes up and grabs my arm, looking at my tattoo. She couldn't believe it and thought it was the most beautiful thing ever. I was a bit surprised. She asked if it hurt. I told her not really, only around the wrist bone. She commented "My... you are so THIN!" I really didn't know what to say to that! LOL! That totally made my day!

LOVE grilled veggies but I rarely think of doing that. I need to get one of those veggie baskets for the grill so we can do that sometimes when hubby is grilling meat. SO GOOD.

The difference between out of season and in season is just staggering isn't it?? I ate a bunch of strawberries this winter and they were GOOD (better than in Mississippi in season sometimes!) but these are just incredible... I can't wait till the stand across from my neighborhood opens up. I think it would be like a mile walk there to get some and then eat them on the way back maybe? hehehehe. mmmm.

Non sugary strawberry ice cream custardish stuff sounds so goooood. Let me know how it goes if/when you do it!

It is kind of Alicey isn't it? So funny. :) I bought a new app for my iphone which lets me do stuff to my photos in my phone... used it to edit that picture (and the other ones in that blog post) and I LOVE it. Looking forward to using it in the future. :)

Right now I'm devouring a chicken leg quarter... the skin is all in my tummy already hahaha. I also ate 2 raw carrots - just so sweet like candy. I love carrots. I think after this leg quarter I will have enough bones to make more stock, but we have 2 more quarters in the fridge already cooked so I'll wait till we eat those first. Will probably do the stock tomorrow.
And I think this weekend I need to make some beef stock. mmm.

bringing meatballs w/sauce, full-fat cottage cheese, and an apple to work with me. Maybe some other stuff too - not sure. I'm already looking forward to my dinner. mmm.
Gonna bring my book to work and get some reading done once the kids are in bed. I'm so close to finishing my book finally. haha. It's a GOOD BOOK but I will be relieved to be able to move on. I've been reading it forever.

The dinner sounds awesome FNW. I'm craving some grilled veggies now. DH picked up some strawberries yesterday and I can't believe how delicious they tasted. The ones I'd get in the winter were such a sorry excuse for strawberries. I'm thinking of making home-made strawberry icecream one of these days, the traditional custardy kind with eggs. Maybe I'll just use less sugar.

We had a beautiful day as well. Now that it is warm, I'm going to try and go for walks everyday.
