Sticking to the Plan: Support Group
Hey, everyone! I just thought I'd start this thread (as suggested by Yogabare) in the hopes that I could get some like-minded people on my side to help with the tough parts of this lifestyle change. It seems that a lot of people here have got it all down pat, avoiding grains, processed foods, etc. with ease! However, I'm having a bit of trouble these days. I live in a home that is not completely Primal, and so there are plenty of things lying around to easily throw me off the Primal bandwagon. Since I'm recovering from an eating disorder, though, I try to not be too hard on myself whenever I slip up. The only problem is, is that I'm sensitive to gluten! It doesn't cause my throat to close up or anything, just some GI stress if I eat too much of it, so there is no immediate consequence when I slip up.
But then, there are the cravings! These intense cravings for carby, sugary things are overwhelming, especially during the TOM. How do all of you beat them? Do you allow yourself more lee-way during this time? I've never been a junk foodie, so I know that I'm not addicted to processed foods, but I'll crave things like honeyed oatmeal, homemade banana bread, ice cream, sweetened yogurt, chocolate, homeade pancakes/waffles/sugar breakfast foods, and fruits.
I really need help, advice and support right now. I'm considering just throwing in the towel, buy some gluten-free bread mix to make for myself, and call it a day. The cravings are getting out of control, and causing me so much anxiety and guilt toward food.
If you don't have any advice, but you're feeling the same way, please, voice your concerns as well! There are strength in numbers, and not feeling alone during a stressful period can be helpful all on its own.
