Steak and eggs diet progress
The Sunday before last I started Canuck416's steak-and-eggs 70s bodybuilder diet. It's supposed to be a 4 week crash diet styled after a classic Vince Gironda diet which Gironda used to assign to his champion bodybuilders during that era. What we were trying to do is eat a fatty 12-16oz steak and 4-6 eggs any style each meal, with butter as desired. Then Sunday is carb refeed day, when we eat low fat protein with lots of primal carbs.
When I started I had a whoosh, then the weight crept right back up. I was eating way too many calories. So I decided to eat no more than 1700 calories on refeed day, and cut way back on other days, too. After refeed day I wasn't hungry, so I only had one evening meal. Other days I was eating two smaller meals. Yesterday I fasted, so that makes today an up day.
When I started eating steak Sunday before last I weighed 147. Today I weigh 141.2. overall I'd say the diet is a smashing success. I expect to stay on it for the next two weeks, then maybe take a week off and eat stuff I can't have on it (like cheese and bacon), then do another cycle. At that point I would probably be at or very near my goal of 125 pounds or so.
Everybody seems to be going their own way on this. Most people have modified the diet so as to include different meats, vegetables, and other things. I can't eat egg whites, so I'm only eating egg yolks. One of the online references was by a guy who sort of followed the diet for 2 months, allowing himself wine every night and then cheating hard 3 times a week. He was on this routine for 2 months, and lost 30 pounds.
