Purple potatoes: primal?
Are purple potatoes better than white,or red, or Yukon gold, or even sweet potatoes? I bought a bag of little (smaller than red potatoes) purple potatoes, and I'm gonna make a buffalo stew with them. I've never eaten them before, I'm really curious! My guess is, is that they are pretty healthy because it helps you to get a wide range of colorful vegetables into your diet... Since different colors mean different vitamins.
On a very unrelated note: I was buying eggs yesterday, and a thought popped up into my head: how come I never see turkey eggs for sale? Are they gross? Has anyone here ever eaten turkey eggs? Or quail eggs. I've seen those at the Japanese store, but they per so tiny and expensive, I'm afraid ill waste my money.
Two very different questions, haha. Sorry! Just curious, thanks :)
Absolutely, purple is the best color there is
Turkeys produce less eggs, so they're a lot more expensive. Their egg laying cycle is later or something, and they require a ton more food.
We get these beautiful dark-purple, nearly navy-blue maori potatoes in season (it's a short season). They are freaking heaven!
Truly, gorgeous veg. Starches, yes. But we eat starches in our household (2x week for DS, and usually 1x week for me and DS whenever he wants).
Try saying that 5 times fast....
Thanks for the replies! I'm sitting in my house now, smelling delicious, spicy buffalo stew cook -- purple potatoes an all! And yeah, they are almost an indigo blue color, I was hoping they'd turn my whole stew a pretty color, lol.
I didn't know that about turkeys, though. Interesting! I kinda still wanna eat one though, haha.
We grew a whole bunch of purple fingerling potatoes last year. They are really dense and the purple color stays nice and dark after cooking. I saw them at my local co-op and bought a few pounds to plant. You can try the same experiment if you like them. Potatoes are pretty easy to grow.
On the turkey egg note, the following gives a bit of detail:
