Your BRAIN on KETO
Ugh, had a carb/junk food binge today, and boy do I feel terrible. I am lethargic, my stomach hurts, and I have no desire to do my workout today. I find it fascinating how getting kicked out of keto affects my brain and motivation. It really is an extremely pronounced effect and I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on the science behind it and/or cite studies. When I'm on keto, I'm focused. I wake up early in the morning and without eating I'm ready to tackle the day. University work, although still not fun, gets done with little effort and procrastination. I walk everywhere I need to go (average 10 miles a day between work and Uni). I lift weights like a man possessed and look forward to my workouts and tick down the hours till I can get back in the gym. Carbs, and all that goes out the window. I have to ride the bus, and push off my responsibilities. All I want to do is sleep. What gives guys?

Sounds like a blood sugar crash.

I had the exact opposite experience last week. I wasn't in ketosis, but had been eating low carb for several days in a row. Then I had an enormous amount of carbs and I woke up the next day with bouncing-off-the-wall energy and mental clarity allllll day. It was fabulous! For a minute I thought my Vit D3 supplement finally kicked in after 6 months, but I'm pretty sure carbs get the credit. I felt healthier and more energetic than I did in a long time. Unfortunately, the feeling was short-lived. :( I'd sure like to feel that way every day. Never felt that way on low carbs.
