I don't know how true this is, but the traditional Chinese medicine view of dark circles is that they are related to the liver. Liver function is linked somehow to quality of sleep, and then anything that stresses the liver too much can cause them- lack of sleep, drinking, etc.
I'm not sure how that applies to you, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Interesting, I'm still pretty young and don't really drink and sleep through they came up when I was sleeping a lot so I doubt it but maybe I can get a panel from my GP.
Anyone else have any suggestions/input? I would really appreciate it! :)

Here's what I would do in your situation: spend the next two weeks gorging on nutrient dense foods while sleeping as much as you can without being expelled, fired or divorced.
breakfast:
5 egg yokes
2 cans of sardines in EVOO
two big, raw carrots unpeeled
Lunch:
big ass spinach salad with chicken/salmon on top
1 orange
1 banana
Dinner:
liver & onions
sweet potato with butter
Coconut milk + blue berry + lime juice + molasses smoothie
supplements:
magnesium
zinc
potassium

Oh and Vitamin D - take your shirt off in the sun if you live in a warm climate or at least let your face eat it for 20 minutes a day and pound Vitamin D pills. Iodine might not hurt either.
I think it's simple. You exercise too much. Tested your pulse rate and temperature? Dial back on the exercising and you should see an improvement.
^Impossible :)

some people in this forum said they applied castor oil in the under-eye area and reported that the circles happened to fade...

You keep mentioning stress.... perhaps it's stress? :-)
Have you tried meditation, yoga, tai chi... any low intensity calming exercise?
Also, are you sure you are sleeping well? Do you snore, stop breathing, etc (this is usually best answered by cohabitants...) If so, maybe you should have a sleep study done.

If you are Italian, I think it's just a genetic, family thing- people whose grandparents came from Naples often have this trait- my brother does for example- it tend to go along with an owl-like, smallish, downward pointed nose, and the underblacked eyes tend, in my experience, toward being large with squarish orbitals.

Dark circles are often food intolerences. Often dairy.
Or it could be Satan.

Is this an inside joke that I'm outside of? You've mentioned it a few times recently...
I think the OP is starving himself. When I competed in my first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament, I went a little (read: a lot) aggressive with making weight (e.g. starving myself while workout out really hard) and had the same issue. I looked sickly rather than like an athlete and I performed about the same.
