Why on earth are they lecturing the hazmat team about nutrition and eating habits? Shouldn't they be focusing on... you know... addressing potentially hazardous incidents?
Preventing heat and blood sugar related ailments in Level A (AKA biohazard completely enclosed SCBA) suits. He had the right idea, because you do exert yourself MUCH more heavily in one of those even doing basic tasks, let alone decontamination work, but bad information and CW BS.
My Nan is 90 and has raised cholesterol so they want to put her on statins. Shes 90 for foxes sake! 90! If shes managed to live that long on the raised cholesterol then it obviously isn't doing her any harm. I want to tell them to leave her alone! She still rabbits on about the joys of dripping and all the old fashioned fats they used to eat. I think she ignores them and eats what she likes. Shes a bit mad but still lucid. One in the eye for CW.
I had one today! I was in a discussion about whey protein. I just don't think one needs to be eating powder when real, whole foods are readily available for cheaper. I told them to find me a whey protein that tastes great, is reasonably priced, and virtually sugar free, and they said something to the effect that "oh, we never said it tasted good"
so I said that I thought if I was going to eat something, it had better taste good! They went on about how sometimes you have to eat tasteless/yucky food in order to get your nutrition in.
*giggles at the porterhouse in front of her*
So I told them about how I eat DELICIOUS food EVERY DAY. How I've gone from a size 24w jean to a size 6. That my race times are faster, and I am stronger, because I eat DELICIOUS, natural food.
I hope you're giggling.
Go get 'em Dr. Bork Bork!

yay! you inspire me!
Here is a CW moment. I was attending a weekly faith group, and someone commented:
"If you keep losing any more weight you will blow away!" (Well, I had lost 40 lbs in 3 months, funny thing is, I stabilized where I wanted for a month already...)
So I decide finally to explain what I was doing. "Well here's what I do, I eat at least 50% calories from fats, preferably saturated. Load up a proteins, and carbs come last. So, lotsa steak, eggs, heavy cream, etc...".
"So what do you do, eat sticks of butter?" I smile at that and say "Well lots of butter is good too!"
"What does your cardiologist have to say about this?" to which I respond "As long as my cholesterol keeps dropping he doesn't even have to know!"
So up to this point, no one around us is really obviously listening in, until that very last comment. I was actually speaking to him from 10 feet away and so I kid you not, when I mentioned "as long as my cholesterol keeps dropping" I saw 6 heads turn my way so fast and in utter shock that I would have worried they got whiplash.

dun dun duuuuuuunh!
I was grilling dinner with my family this evening and my mother was preparing an incredible salad that included lettuce, spinach, radishes, tomatoes, mushrooms, avocados, and an oil and vinegar dressing. I walked in and this was the exchange that followed:
Me: Oh, wow, that looks delicious. I think the only thing that could possibly make it better is bacon.
My Mother: This is a healthy salad! Don't you go suggesting ways to make it unhealthy.
LOL. The only way that salad could have been any more foodgasmic was bacon!
I love this thread.
I went out to eat yesterday, this sort of buffet place. My friend and I figured it'd be good since we could avoid carbs but, unlike her, I am a saturated fat seeker. She isn't into saturates, just mono. And I failed to find any saturates which made me think I am going to start carrying butter around in my bag when I go out to eat and put it on top of the food if they are going to keep insisting on frying in vegetable oil and insulting their clientele.
We were LOL-ing at all the people who were eating plates with things like rice, pizza, noodles and prawn crackers all piled up. They had some okay things available - there was duck (yum) and an okay salad bar that at least had EV O/Oil to drizzle over it. You had to then select your stir fry and they fried it for you. I could taste straight away that they were using some nasty cheap vegetable oil and I missed the SFAs in my dish :(. Nothing available at that place had any saturates that I could work out and I knew I would feel odd later. Lo and behold about 3 hours later my friend says she is hungry and my gut is starting to turn over and I kept belching and all I could taste was the manky vegetable oil they'd used. Proof to me that veg oil is SH*TE if I needed it.
Oh and don't get me started on the dessert. I'd had fantasies about clotted cream and such but no, all you could have was ice cream or some synthetic topping to put with cookies, jelly beans (WTF) or some citrus fruit. Thanks CW.
PS Just made scrambled eggs with double cream fried in butter to heal the breach. :)
