I agree, trying to explain it won't work (and generates useless stress). Concrete results are the best argument ever.
Sometimes, especially when I speak to doctors and dietologists, it seems to me they have all the information at hand: they just cannot "connect the dots" and see the picture.
Yep that's exactly the problem D: one day hopefully something will break through and we will see a change in society :D
I have an FB friend who says that she has to eat off a divided plate so that she knows that she is getting her protein, starch and veg per meal. It's from years of following WeightWatchers/JennyCraig/NutriSystem, that if she doesn't get what she's "supposed" to, she feels cheated and overeats later. I told her that those weren't diets, they were businesses.
Another friend sat and listened to (my last ever) spiel about what I eat and why. Her take? "So, everything in moderation, right?"
I do so enjoy the What Should We Call Paleo Life site.

Greatest CW fail of the day courtesy of Facebook:
Yummy breakfast! Only 27lbs more to loose :-) I'm SO excited! I love watching the scale go down and feeling my clothes getting bigger!
Then a glorious picture of a healthy breakfast:
A bowl of frosted mini wheats, a bowl of strawberries and blueberries, a banana and orange juice.
*so much sugar* *facepalm*
Good luck with keeping off the pounds my friend, cuz you're gunna need it.
My partner got a box of these as an unexpected birthday gift.
Eat Natural bars
The big letters on the front of the packaging say:
Eat Natural with cranberries, macadamias and dark chocolate and nothing dodgy
Ingredients: Dark chocolate 20% (cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier: soya lecithin), shredded coconut 14%, glucose syrup, sultanas 12%, brazil nuts 11%, crisped rice (rice, sugar), dried cranberries 7% (cranberries, sugar, sunflower oil), macadamia nuts 6%, honey.
Nothing dodgy huh? But part of one made a great snack halfway through a 30 miles cycle ride in the Scottish hills in the wind and rain.
Like gov. Christie getting a lapband...

Someone on the fatsecret.com site seeing a post of mine on eggs and sending me a message saying that judging by my success (same avatar photo as here) I must be eating eggs "in moderation". I don't think so...

A guy I know who's recently started working out and trying to eat healthy: "I hadn't realised how much saturated fat a cake contains, it's worrying!"
Yes, he's worried about the saturated fat content of a CAKE, which is made almost entirely of white flour and sugar. Sigh.
All I gotta about that is SMH
