People overeat meat and that is why they are fat.
Yeah, because every time I see obese people eating, it's always a steak. Never a huge plate of pasta or a burger with a big bun and a plate full of fries or and ice cream sundae or a Big Gulp or a big piece of cake...

The overweight "nutrition specialist" was at the pet store yesterday. She was happy to see me buying grain free food. When I explained I switched my dog after realizing how much better I felt being grain free she gave me a strange look. She mentioned reading Eat This Not That and was astonished that her choice of granola to go with her morning yogurt was the worst on the list. She also stated, "but we need grains and whole grains are healthy." I suggested primal, paleo, and Wheat Belly. How as a dog food nutrition specialist can you understand an animal being grain free, but not a human?

The one that gets me is when you have just finished telling someone you are not eating grain products like bread, etc and they say "but you are eating whole grains, right?" A grain is a grain is a grain......

I moved and am renting out my house to some tenants. I left a few things and a few pieces of furniture as they really didn't have much, including a spare salad spinner we had. I drop by one day and they are using it as a bucket to wash their car.

Just got an email notification about a new Meetup group for weight loss support. Out of curiousity, I went to read the full description and noticed where their first meetup is scheduled: Panera Bread. SMH.
The stories of people seeing but totally not realizing reminds me of a story I read somewhere. Not that I believe the story, but its just funny, and makes you think.
Story is that when Columbus's ships pulled up in the new world, that the Native Americans couldn't see them, because they had never seen anything like it, and just couldn't comprehend what in the hell even the idea of a ship. So, essentially, the whole fleet was just invisible.
But one of the older men of the tribe noticed that the breaking of waves and such in the water wasn't right, so he sat on the shore for a couple of days, just staring, because he knew something was there. And then, suddenly, he could see them. And with someone they respected telling them to look, and giving them the description, the rest of the tribe was eventually able to see the ships as well.
Don't remember where I read it, but reading this thread does seem to make it seem plausible.
While I agree that many people seem to have an amazing ability to avoid comprehending things they do not want to, this story is 100% false. This blog post Native American Indians Couldn't See Columbus's Ships Myth - debunked actually did the legwork to do research into the historical documents from the time to make the counter argument.
And when you think about it rationally, would it make sense for an animal to "not be able to see" something so large and new and possibly threatening in its environment? And even at the furthest stretch of the imagination, even if they didnt know that the structures in the water were ships that carried many more men and supplies than their own canoes, theyd certainly have seen things, like, you know, big fucking rocks in the water, in order to maneuver canoes around them, so certainly "large things in the water" would have been an area of comprehension.

I assumed this story was meant as a parable of some kind and not literal fact.
