Stress from Family?
Hi, how do you all cope with stress from your family when they really attack you for your primal diet?
My dad calls me "crazy" and gets extremely angry whenever I read books on diet or look at Mark Sisson videos (lol).
My mum also isn't too supportive and calls it extreme and dangerous.
The fact is I did lose 20 lbs, (Now I'm 132lb) and my parents aren't too fond about that.
And I was about to try raw paleo, which is far more radical. How do you deal with this problem? Just ignore it?
-
This can be rough... I went through it when I was still living with my parents years ago. I was raw paleo then (still am) and they just didn't get it.
They are supportive now. I don't know quite what changed their minds other than time. Good luck with your situation

Maybe he's just angry because Mark Sisson is always shirtless and he sees you looking at videos of shirtless men talking about primal things

Ignoring it only goes so far. My parents and a lot of my family still don't get Primal, despite my significant (126 pounds) weight loss in an eleven month period. My mom's slowly coming around but my dad is still pretty much the SAD defender.
Don't be confrontational about it even if your family is. Try to keep things in a rational tone and discussion. It takes two to fight, so if you keep rational you'll be okay. It's tough to do, especially when the proof is literally right in front of them. Don't force the information down their throat and don't brag (though god knows you should brag, you lost weight!)
Try to keep the lines of communication and discussion open. It's quite hard some days, but maybe they'll come around.
Then again, maybe not. Ultimately you need to do right by you, not them ... keep that in mind. It's your health.

Are you able to keep your distance from them? I'm assuming you live with them?
Try not to eat, talk about the diet or watch videos around them. Some days you're not going to be able to keep the distance so try your best to ignore them. I know this can be difficult but try, try your best to not let them get to you.
How tall are you by the way? Do they think you're too thin now? Is that why they're not too fond of your weight loss?
How do you feel physically now that you're on the primal diet?
-
Well to be honest I wasn't planning on losing weight or anything. I'm around 5' 8" so that's a pretty good weight range for my height. I feel great on the paleo diet.... And i don't want to go back

When I told my mom, she acted like I came out of the closet. She was very polite, and avoided the topic, but when it comes up she is very careful not to offend. Now they are all pretty accepting, and since I've lost 30lbs I don't feel I need to justify anything anymore. The proof is in the pudding (proverbially speaking of course).

Not that it justifies their behavior, but raw paleo is crazy and stupid

Thank you for making me smile!

I find that the secret to conflicts like that is to agree with them.
Agree that extreme diets are dangerous. That's why you are planning on eating whole foods.
I don't think that raw paleo is a smart idea. Our guts evolved to eat cooked meat.
