Oh, and favorite way to eat the taters so far is to take some cold ones that have already been baked/boiled and peeled, toss with spices, and bake around 180c on a parchment paper lined sheet. Wait about 20 mins or so until crispy on the outside....yum! I've tossed them with a little rosemary and thyme, or with some garam masala spice blend when Indian food sounds good. :)
...My weight swings between 155.5-159 all week, and i seem to keep losing the same 3 lbs over again. My lowest weight is on Friday and Monday, even after eating high fat all weekend (I get in my egg yolks, sardines and chicken wings :) Then on Tuesday (after my first day back on all taters) it pops up to its highest @ 159, then slowly drops all week back down to 155-156.
I'm a wee bit disappointed so far, but I'll keep on keep-in on this week and see what happens. I'm a 5'6" female and would love to lose about 10-15 pounds and fit back into my jeans. I'm eating to satiety 3 meals a day, with nothing but taters, spices, wee bit o ketchup, vinegar, and fat free broth. I average around 1.3 kilos of taters...which in fitday comes out to around 1200 cal. I'd like to go lower, but I don't want to go so low my body thinks I'm really starving and mess up my already wonky metabolism even more..
It looks like you are eating at the exact amount you need to keep your weight stable. You'll need to cut some calories to get it to move and stay down. Don't eat the potatoes with 1200 calories in mind, eat just enough to satisfy your hunger. I'm a 6' 190 pound guy and I can do well eating 2-3 pounds (.8 - 1.5kg or so). What you want to do is use the week or so you are eating potatoes to move some fat, then go back to healthy eating for a stretch.
I like to skip breakfast, eat one big, hot, baked potato for lunch, then 2 or 3 potatoes fixed in various ways for dinner. If I get hungry between those meals, I like to have some small boiled potatoes standing by I can eat cold with salt.
Are you really in Latvia? I spent some time in Riga in the 90's. Beautiful place. Lots of potato-lovers there!

Great thread, Julie! I have been really busy this week but will try to drop in from time to time. What's cool about the Potato Diet is that anyone can be an instant expert!
When in doubt--eat moar taters!

What's the point of this thread if no one can tell me that???

HA! And thanks to you and Otzi for starting the frenzy. Good times.
It's just so nice not having to think about anything else. No choices to make, just potatoes.
I was just thinking how nice it would be if there was some sort of People Chow out there
for those of us looking to drop a few pounds.
Macro and Micronutriently sound, not too tasty and satiaty would happen after a few bites.
Potatoes are definitely that for me, but not exactly the BEST nutrition for any length of time... so the
People Chow would come in handy.
With regard to your post to KitchenWrecker - yeah, the more tasty you make them, the more you're
going to want to eat.
I think the potatoes should be as bland as possible so you're eating for satiaty and not for deliciousness.
Yesterday I had to eat my russet in two shifts. Half at 1:30 and half at 2:30.
Around 4 I felt a little hungry, but the thought of another potato gave me a headache, so I knew
I wasn't REALLY hungry.
Around 6:30 I was DYING and ate my sweet potatoes with wild abandon.
7:30, watching my husband eating his steak, had me wanting some, but I wasn't stomach
hungry for it, just mouth hungry.
Right now I'm crispifying some russet rounds with salt in the oven on nonstick foil.
Damn hungry today. My exercise and low cals are catching up with me today.

Shhhhhh, there are these sooper sekrit places - they're called "grocery stores".
VERY hard to find cuz of their sekrit locations.
Do NOT tell anyone if you find one.

I am way too skinny to continue this diet, therefore I am retiring. I gotta put on more muscle mass!
But I am definitely going to continue eating loads of potatoes, just with more protein. I too have found that I feel much better on a lower fat, higher carb diet. And it definitely makes me want to be more active like my old high school athlete self. So cheers to you all and good luck in your fat loss pursuits!
tator on!
Round 1 last week. Four tater days. 147.2 to 145. Ate moderate over weekend.
Day 2 same weight, 145.6. A bit disappointed but not giving up on my commitment!
If you take a look at my weight loss, >8lb in 10 days, I've had 2 blocks of 3 days where my weight stayed exactly static, and then dived. Weird, but 8lb in 10 days is still not to be sniffed at.

But how do I tell the super secret potatoes from the regular ones?
This is already too confusing to be a workable diet.

I've noticed that I don't experience "carb crashing" on my high-potato/starch diet. I have noticed that its actually high-fat/protein meals that induce crashes for me. Rib eye steak (w/ potato) and I want a nap. 90% carb meal with 100-150g carbs and I feel the same as before I ate. I think I've been wrongly implicating carbs as the crash culprit.
