Can't find the origional study but the article she links to Vegetarians Live Longer, Study Finds that talks about the study seems to compare Adventists to other Californians.
"Vegetarian Adventist men live to an average of 83.3 years and vegetarian women 85.7 years — 9.5 and 6.1 years, respectively, longer than other Californians, Fraser explained."
Keep in mind they tend not to smoke or drink or eat fast food or do drugs so there is a huge lifestyle factor their as well.
To ignore the other lifestyle factors and put it down to vegetarianism is very bad reporting....but what else is new.
Vegetarian and vegan are not the same thing. That article conflates the two, but most vegetarians are eating dairy and eggs as well as plants.

I've recently read that this is a myth. Statistically vegetarians (or the subclass vegans) live shorter lives.

It just seems like it's longer because the food sucks.
Thank you for my laugh today JoanieL! :D

damn. that's where i was going with this.
On average, pescatarian ovo-lactos live the longest. Followed by ominivores, followed by ovo-lactos. Vegans always come last.

I wonder if this is because of correlation. Like, the most unadulterated land would be on islands, where people live the most naturally. And in this case, they have way more access to fish than other types of meat, and would live longer because of the overall stress-free environment.
Joanie! Brilliant! MUAHAHA!
One day, many years from now, we'll have an article saying how eating paleo/primal leads to a longer life, better mental acuity, less depression.
We eat nourishing animal fats, healthy doses of veggies, great protein.
One day...
...I think this study is a load of crap. Or tofu. Either one fits.
